Okay, so the other day I tried making whipped cream in a jar, and it actually worked! I’m not kidding. It’s a pretty neat trick, especially if you don’t have a mixer or just don’t feel like getting all that stuff out.
First, I got my hands on a jar, like a mason jar, and some heavy cream. The key here is to make sure that the cream is cold. I stuck mine in the freezer for about 10 minutes before starting, just to make sure.

I poured the cold heavy cream into the jar. I didn’t fill it all the way up, though – I left a good amount of space at the top. I hear you should just fill up to half of the jar. Then, I screwed the lid on super tight. You don’t want cream flying everywhere!
Then came the fun part – shaking the jar like crazy! I shook it up and down, side to side, every which way. I was like, dancing and shaking the jar at the same time. My arms definitely got a workout, not going to lie. I think I shook it for a good 5-7 minutes.
After a while, I started to feel the cream getting thicker inside the jar. At first, it was all sloshy, but then it got quieter and felt heavier. That’s when I knew it was working.
-
Pour cold heavy cream into a jar.
-
Screw the lid on tight.
-
Shake the jar vigorously for several minutes.
-
Open and enjoy your homemade whipped cream!
Finally, I opened the jar, and there it was – whipped cream! It wasn’t as stiff as the kind you get with a mixer, but it was definitely whipped. I used it on some strawberries, and it was delicious.
My Tips for You
- Chill your jar in the freezer for a bit before you start.
- If you want sweetened whipped cream, add a little powdered sugar or something before shaking.
- Don’t be afraid to shake it hard.
It’s a fun little experiment, and the results are pretty tasty. Give it a try sometime!
