Where to Buy Portuguese Sweet Bread: Your Guide to Local Bakeries and Stores!

Okay, so I’ve been craving this Portuguese sweet bread lately, you know, the kind they call “Pao Doce” or something like that. I’m no expert on this stuff, but I just had to find some.

I started by hitting up the internet, searching for “Portuguese sweet bread near me.”

  • Searched online for “Portuguese sweet bread near me.”
  • Found a bunch of listings on Yelp for bakeries in San Jose, CA.

Got a bunch of results, mostly from Yelp, listing bakeries in San Jose, CA. I saw names like “Portuguese Tasty Desserts,” “Pastelaria Adega,” “Popular Bakery,” and a few others popping up.

It seemed like there were a few options, but I wasn’t sure which one to try. I mean, I wanted the real deal, you know?

  • Read some reviews for different bakeries.
  • Narrowed it down to a couple of places that looked promising.

So, I started reading some reviews. Some folks were raving about Pastelaria Adega, saying they had the best “Pao Doce.” Others were saying good things about Portuguese Tasty Desserts. After checking the reviews, I was able to choose 2 places.

I decided to check out these places in person. First stop, Pastelaria Adega.

  • Drove to Pastelaria Adega.
  • Tried their “Pao Doce.”

I drove over there, and the place looked legit. They had all sorts of Portuguese pastries, and of course, the “Pao Doce.” I bought a loaf, and man, it was good! Soft, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness.

Next, I headed over to Portuguese Tasty Desserts to see how they compared.

  • Went to Portuguese Tasty Desserts.
  • Sampled their sweet bread.

Their sweet bread was pretty good too, but I have to say, I think I liked Pastelaria Adega’s a little better. It was just a bit more flavorful, I guess. And their bread had four or five eggs, tasted a little more richer.

Anyway, I ended up buying a loaf from both places. Hey, a guy’s gotta have options, right? Plus, I can make some bread at home in my wood-fired oven with those eggs.

  • Bought sweet bread from both Pastelaria Adega and Portuguese Tasty Desserts.

So, there you have it. If you’re looking for some good Portuguese sweet bread in San Jose, CA, I’d say Pastelaria Adega is a solid choice. But hey, don’t just take my word for it. Go check them out yourself!

Summary

I found some delicious Portuguese sweet bread at Pastelaria Adega and also tried some from Portuguese Tasty Desserts. Both were good, but Pastelaria Adega’s was my favorite. Overall, it was a successful sweet bread hunt!
