Okay, so I’ve been craving Portuguese sweet bread lately. It’s, like, the best thing ever with coffee in the morning. But finding it? Not always easy. So, I started on a mission to find some.
First Try: The Big Grocery Stores
My first thought was, “Duh, the supermarket!” I hit up the usual suspects – you know, the big chain stores in my area. I figured they’d have a bakery section, and maybe, just maybe, they’d have some Portuguese sweet bread.

I wandered around, checked the bread aisle, looked at the “international” foods… nothing. A total bust. I even asked one of the employees, but they just gave me a blank stare. No luck there.
Next Stop: Smaller, Local Bakeries
Okay, so the big stores were a no-go. Time to think smaller. I remembered there are a couple of local bakeries near me, the kind that are family-owned and have been around for ages. I thought, “Maybe they’ll have it!”
I drove to the first one. It smelled amazing inside, all warm and yeasty. I asked the lady behind the counter, and… she shook her head. Nope, no Portuguese sweet bread. Strike two.
I tried another bakery, a little further away. Same story. They had all sorts of delicious-looking stuff, but not what I was looking for. Feeling a little defeated, I almost gave up.
Getting Crafty: The Internet Search
I pulled out my phone and started googling “where to buy Portuguese sweet bread near me.” I scrolled through a bunch of results. It can help to search for Portuguese restaurants or bakeries in your local area. There were also some that did catering. The search results came through!
Success at Last!
And, found some! It was a small bakery a little way from my apartment, I called and they confirmed to have! So excited to get my hand on it!
So, yeah, that’s my story of finding Portuguese sweet bread. It took a little more effort than I expected, but it was totally worth it. Now I know exactly where to go next time my craving hits!
