Whats the Weight? Tablespoon of Baking Powder in Grams Explained
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Okay, so I was trying to make these killer pancakes the other day, right? The recipe called for a tablespoon of baking powder, but I’m all about that precision, especially when it comes to baking. So, I needed to know exactly how many grams that was. My kitchen scale is my best friend, you know?

First, I grabbed my trusty tablespoon and my container of baking powder. I zeroed out my scale – gotta make sure it’s starting at zero, obviously. Then, I carefully scooped a level tablespoon of baking powder. Now, I’ve done this a million times for other ingredients, but baking powder is kind of fluffy and light, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Whats the Weight? Tablespoon of Baking Powder in Grams Explained
  • Scoop the baking powder.
  • Level it off with a knife.
  • Place it on the scale.

I placed the baking powder on the scale and… drumroll, please… it came out to around 14 grams! I did it a couple more times, just to be sure, and it was pretty consistent, give or take a half gram. One time it was even 15 grams! I also tried using teaspoon and found out 1 teaspoon is about 4.8 grams of baking powder. Seems like the weight of baking powder can be a little different every time.

Honestly, it’s not rocket science, but it’s super useful to know these little conversions, especially when a recipe calls for volume measurements but you want the accuracy of weight. It’s way easier to mess up the ratios with volume.

Findings

So, there you have it. A tablespoon of baking powder is roughly 14 to 15 grams. Keep that in mind next time you’re whipping up some baked goods! And remember, always better to weigh your ingredients when you can. It makes a difference, trust me.
