Alright, let’s talk about this here… uh… silicone baking paper roll thingy. My grandaughter, she got me one. Said it’s the newfangled way to bake. I used to just grease the pan with lard, you know? But she says this stuff is better. Don’t stick, she says. So, I figured, what the heck, I’ll give it a try.
First off, this silicone baking paper, it comes in a roll, like that aluminum foil stuff. But it ain’t foil, it’s… well, it feels kinda like… plastic, but not really. It’s smooth and slippery. They say it’s 100% non-stick. And you know what? It kinda is. I baked some cookies the other day, and they just slid right off. No scraping, no fuss. That was a nice surprise, I gotta say.

Now, they call it all sorts of names. Some folks call it butter paper, some say parchment paper. I even heard someone call it a silicone baking mat roll. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it’s all the same thing, far as I can tell. It’s this stuff you put on your baking sheets so your food don’t stick. And it works pretty good for that.
- No sticking: Like I said, the food just slides right off. That’s a big plus in my book.
- Easy cleaning: You just throw it away after you’re done. No more scrubbing those greasy pans. My old hands ain’t what they used to be, so this is a real help.
- Safe for baking: They say it’s food grade and non-toxic. That’s important, you know? I don’t want no funny chemicals in my food.
- Oven liner: I heard you can even put it on the bottom of your oven to catch drips. Haven’t tried that yet, but it sounds like a good idea. Keeps the oven clean, I guess.
Some folks, they use these silicone baking mats instead. They look like those flat plastic things you put on your counter. My grandaughter, she’s got one of those too. She says it’s reusable. You just wash it and use it again. That sounds alright, but I like the convenience of just throwing the paper away. Less mess, you see. And I heard that silicone mats can make cookies spread more which I don’t want. Cookies should be light and fluffy, not flat like a pancake.
I bake sugar cookies for a living, well, for my grandkids and neighbors mostly, bless their hearts. They all love my cookies. So, making it easier is always a good thing. And this here silicone paper does the trick. I’ve been told that it keeps the cookies from spreading too much in the oven, and keeps their texture nice and light. Just how I like them.
Now, some folks are saying this silicone paper is better than metal pans for baking. I don’t know about that. I’ve been using my old metal pans for years, and they work just fine. But I can see why some folks might like the silicone stuff better. It’s definitely easier to clean up, that’s for sure.
One thing I did hear that this paper is also good for protecting when you are using a hot press. Keeps the printing from sticking you see. Never used a hot press but it’s good to know in case I ever decide to start a t-shirt business in my golden years, hah! Just kidding, my old bones are tired enough from baking cookies.
All in all, I think this silicone baking paper is a pretty good invention. It makes baking easier, and that’s always a good thing in my book. It’s not like the old days, that’s for sure. But sometimes, newfangled ain’t so bad. And if it makes my cookies slide right off the pan, well, I ain’t complaining. It’s a good thing to have around the kitchen, especially if you do a lot of baking. So, if you’re looking for something to make your baking life a little easier, give this silicone baking paper a try. You might just like it. I know I do.
Now, if you excuse me, I got a batch of cookies to bake. And you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be using that silicone paper.
