Today, I want to share my experience with making a train-shaped cake. You know, one of those cute ones for a kid’s birthday party? It sounded simple enough, but, boy, was it a journey!
First off, I went and got myself a train-shaped baking mold. It’s one of those silicone ones, pretty nifty. The place I found it had tons of shapes, but I was on a mission for this train.

Getting Started
- I prepped the mold by placing it on a baking sheet. I read somewhere that this makes it easier to get it in and out of the oven. Smart, right?
Mixing and Pouring
- Next up, I mixed up my cake batter. Just a regular vanilla one, nothing fancy. I remembered a tip from this baker, Janet, that said to only pour batter on one side of the mold – the face side down. So, I did just that. You don’t want to fill both sides, trust me on this, it was important, I made sure not to fill past the rim.
Baking
- Into the oven it went! I kept a close eye on it, probably checked it like a hundred times. I was so nervous!
The Big Reveal
- Once it was done and cooled a bit, it was time to take it out of the mold. This was the moment of truth. I carefully flipped it over, and… it came out perfect! A cute little train, all ready to be decorated! It feels like a real success!
Decorating was the fun part. I used all sorts of candies and frosting to make it look like a real train. The kids at the party were going to love this, I just knew it.
This mold can do more than just cakes though. It says you can make chocolates, jelly, even ice cream! I might try making some train-shaped chocolates next. Or maybe some pudding?
In the end, it was way easier than I thought it would be. And the cake turned out great! I’m pretty proud of myself, not going to lie. If you’re thinking about trying one of these molds, go for it! Just follow the tips I mentioned, and you’ll be golden.
I’m already thinking about what I can bake next. Maybe a car? Or a dinosaur? The possibilities are endless! It’s such a fun thing to do, and it really makes a regular cake into something special. Go give it a try, you won’t regret it! I bet you’ll surprise yourself with how good you are at this. Just like I did!
