Alright, today I’m gonna walk you through how I made some super simple biscuits. The best part? No baking powder needed! Just regular all-purpose flour and a few other things you probably already have.
Gathering the Ingredients
First, I grabbed all my ingredients. I used about 2 cups of all-purpose flour, a pinch of salt, some sugar (just a spoonful or so), a good chunk of cold butter (like half a cup), and some milk. I like my biscuits kinda plain, but you can totally throw in some herbs or cheese if that’s your thing.

Mixing the Dry Ingredients
I dumped the flour into a big bowl and whisked in the salt and sugar. Making sure that’s all mixed up well is important so everything’s evenly distributed.
Cutting in the Butter
This is where it gets a little hands-on. I took that cold butter and cut it into small pieces. Then, I used my fingers to rub the butter into the flour mixture. You want it to look like coarse crumbs. Some folks use a pastry cutter, but I just use my hands. It takes a bit of elbow grease, but it’s worth it.
Adding the Liquid
Slowly, I poured in the milk while mixing everything with a fork. You don’t want to overmix here, just get it to where the dough starts to come together. It’ll be a bit sticky, and that’s okay.
Shaping the Biscuits
I lightly floured my countertop and plopped the dough out. I patted it down gently, no need to roll it out. Then, I used a round cutter (a glass works too) to cut out the biscuits. I just pressed straight down, no twisting. Twisting can mess them up. I got the dough scraps and reshape them to get more biscuits from it.
Baking Time
I put the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Into the oven they went, at around 400 degrees Fahrenheit. I baked them for about 15-20 minutes until they’re golden brown on top and the bottom, when it is ready then take them out.
The Result
Man, these biscuits turned out great! Fluffy, buttery, and just perfect with some jam or gravy. They were so easy to make, and without baking powder, they’ve got this nice, simple flavor.
So there you have it, my little baking adventure. Give it a try, it’s easier than you think! And honestly, nothing beats the smell of fresh biscuits in the morning.
