Okay, so I’ve been seeing these super cute strawberry matcha cakes all over Instagram, and I finally decided to give it a try. It looked kinda complicated, but I figured, why not? Here’s how it went down.
Getting Started
First, I gathered all my ingredients. I already had most of the basics like flour, sugar, eggs, and butter. But I had to make a quick trip to the store for the matcha powder and fresh strawberries. I made sure to get good quality matcha, because I figured that would make a big difference in the flavor.

Making the Matcha Cake
I started by making the matcha cake layers. I whisked together the dry ingredients – flour, sugar, baking powder, and of course, the matcha powder. The batter turned this beautiful, vibrant green, it was awesome. In a separate bowl, I whisked the wet ingredients, egg ,melted butter and milk. Then slowly added in the wet ingredients and combined to the dry ingredients and mixed together. and slowly combine everything until it was just mixed. Don’t overmix!
I poured the batter into two round cake pans that I’d greased and floured. Then, into the oven they went. I baked them for about 30 minutes, but I kept a close eye on them. The toothpick test is key – you want it to come out clean.
Whipping Up the Frosting
While the cakes were baking, I got started on the frosting.I whipped some cream cheese and butter and slowly added some milk *’s basically a simple cream cheese frosting. Then slowly added confectioners’ sugar until it was nice and fluffy.
Strawberry Time!
I washed and sliced a bunch of fresh strawberries. These were going to go between the cake layers and on top for decoration. I picked out the prettiest ones for the top, obviously.
Assembling the Masterpiece
Once the cakes were completely cool, I leveled them off with a knife. Then, I spread a generous layer of frosting on the first layer, arranged a layer of sliced strawberries, and placed the second cake layer on top.
I frosted the entire cake with the remaining frosting, making it as smooth as I could. Then, I decorated the top with the remaining strawberries. I even dusted a little extra matcha powder on top for a final touch.
The Result!
Honestly, I was pretty proud of myself! It looked almost as good as the ones I’d seen online. And most importantly, it tasted amazing! The slight bitterness of the matcha balanced perfectly with the sweetness of the strawberries and the creamy frosting. It was totally worth the effort, I will do it again next time!
