Quick and Simple Cake Flour Desserts for Beginners

Alright, let’s talk about them cake flour desserts, you know, the sweet stuff. I ain’t no fancy baker, but I know what tastes good. My old grandma, she used to make the best cakes, and she always said it was the flour that made the difference. She used somethin’ called cake flour, said it made things real soft and fluffy.

What is this Cake Flour Anyways?

Now, I ain’t gonna lie, I don’t know all the fancy details. But from what I gather, this cake flour is different from the regular flour. It’s got less of that…what do you call it…protein? Yeah, protein. Less protein means a softer cake, less chewy, you know? Like them clouds in the sky, almost.

  • Makes things real soft: That’s what my grandma always said. If you want a cake that melts in your mouth, you gotta use this stuff.
  • Not for everything though: Don’t go usin’ this for bread or somethin’. It won’t hold up. It’s for cakes and maybe some cookies, the delicate kind.

Some Good Eats You Can Make

Okay, so you got your cake flour, now what? Well, there’s a whole bunch of things you can make. My favorite? Probably a good ol’ layer cake. You know, the kind with the creamy stuff in the middle? That cake flour makes it so light and airy, it’s just heavenly.

Then there’s them cookies. Not the hard, crunchy kind, but the soft, chewy ones. You add some sprinkles, maybe some nuts, and you got yourself a treat. I remember my kids, they used to love those colorful cookies. Always askin’ for more. And who am I to say no to my grandbabies?

And let’s not forget about angel food cake. That one’s a real special one. It’s so light, it’s like eatin’ air. My neighbor, bless her heart, she used to bring one over every Christmas. Said it was her secret recipe, but I bet it had somethin’ to do with that cake flour.

There is also this “Eclair Cake”. I saw it once on a cooking show when I was flippin’ channels. Looked easy enough even for an old woman like me to do. Graham crackers, pudding and some chocolate on top? My, my. The grandkids will surely love this.

Oh, and those pie crusts! If you want a pie crust that’s flaky and tender, not tough and chewy, you need this cake flour. My daughter, she makes the best apple pie, and she swears by it. Says it’s the secret to a perfect crust.

Can’t Find Cake Flour? No Problem!

Now, sometimes you go to the store and they’re all out of this cake flour. Don’t you fret! My grandma, she taught me a trick. You can make your own, kinda. You take some regular flour, that all-purpose stuff, and you mix it with a little bit of cornstarch. I ain’t gonna tell you the exact amounts, ’cause I don’t rightly remember, but you can find it online, I reckon.

Baking Tips from an Old Woman

I ain’t no expert, but I’ve baked a cake or two in my day. So here’s a few things I’ve learned:

  • Don’t overmix: You want a tender cake, not a tough one. Mix it just until everything’s combined, no more.
  • Room temperature ingredients: Let your eggs and butter sit out for a bit before you start. It makes a difference, trust me.
  • Preheat your oven: Seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how many folks forget. You want that oven nice and hot when you put your cake in.

So there you have it. A little somethin’ about cake flour desserts. It ain’t rocket science, just good ol’ fashioned baking. Now go on and make yourself somethin’ sweet. You deserve it. And remember what my grandma always said, “A little bit of sugar makes everything better.”

And that’s the truth, I tell ya. That’s the truth.
