Pie Making Tools Review: Find the Right Gadgets for Your Needs
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alright, let’s talk about makin’ pies. I ain’t no fancy baker, but I know how to get a good pie on the table. You don’t need a whole lot of fancy-schmancy stuff, but some things sure do make it easier.

First off, you gotta have somethin’ to mix your stuff in. Big bowls, that’s what I use. Not them little bitty things, get some good-sized bowls, you know, the kind you can really get your hands in and mix things up proper. I got a few, some glass, some plastic, doesn’t really matter as long as they’re big enough.

Pie Making Tools Review: Find the Right Gadgets for Your Needs
  • Big Mixin’ Bowls: Gotta have ’em, for mixin’ the dough, the fillin’, everything.
  • Measurin’ Cups and Spoons: Yeah, you need these too. I ain’t one for guessin’, especially when it comes to bakin’. A little too much of this or that, and your pie’s gonna be a mess.

Now, for the crust, that’s where things get a bit more… particular. You need a rollin’ pin. I got a good ol’ wooden one. Heavy, you know? Makes it easier to roll out that dough nice and even. Some folks like them fancy marble ones, but wood’s always worked fine for me. And don’t forget a pie dish! I like the glass ones, myself. See-through, so you can tell if the bottom crust is cooked. But any kind will do, really. Just make sure it’s the right size, you know, not too big, not too small.

Speaking of the crust, some folks use those fancy pastry blenders to cut the butter into the flour. I ain’t gonna lie, they work pretty good. But if you don’t have one, don’t fret. Your hands work just fine. Just gotta be quick, so the butter don’t melt too much. And a fork, that’s somethin’ you definitely gonna need. For crimpin’ the edges, you know, makin’ it look pretty.

And then there’s the fillin’. For fruit pies, I like to use a good knife for cuttin’ up the fruit. Sharp, you know? Makes it easier to get nice, even pieces. And a big spoon for stirrin’ it all up with the sugar and spices. For cream pies, you might need a whisk, get them eggs and milk all nice and fluffy. And don’t forget a rubber scraper. Gotta get every last bit of that fillin’ into the crust, ain’t wastin’ nothin’ around here.

Now, some folks got all sorts of gadgets and gizmos. Pie weights, they call ’em. Little ceramic balls or somethin’. Supposed to keep the crust from bubblin’ up when you bake it empty. I just use some dried beans. Works just the same, far as I can tell. And them lattice cutters? Makes the top crust all fancy lookin’. Pretty, but not necessary. A plain ol’ top crust tastes just as good. And a pie server, that’s a nice thing to have. Makes it easier to get them slices out without messin’ ’em up.

So, there you have it. My pie makin’ tools. Nothin’ fancy, but they get the job done. A good pie ain’t about havin’ all the latest gadgets, it’s about puttin’ in the love and care. And a little bit of elbow grease, of course. Now, go on and make yourself a pie. You’ll be glad you did. Don’t matter if you’re a beginner or if you been bakin’ pies since you were knee-high to a grasshopper, these tools, they’ll help ya. Just remember, keep it simple and don’t overthink it. Pies are supposed to be fun, not a headache. And don’t be afraid to experiment. That’s how you learn. Maybe you’ll even come up with somethin’ better than my old recipes! Heck, I wouldn’t even be surprised.

And remember, clean up as you go! Nothin’ worse than a kitchen full of dirty dishes after you’re done bakin’. So, wash them bowls and spoons as you use ’em, and you’ll thank yourself later. And one last thing. If your pie doesn’t turn out perfect the first time, that’s alright. Just try again. Even the best pie bakers have their off days. It’s all part of the learning process. Just keep at it, and you’ll get the hang of it. Now get to bakin’!
