So, the other day, I decided it was time to tackle a big project I’ve been putting off – dealing with a 100-pound bag of all-purpose flour. Yeah, you heard that right, 100 pounds! I run a small bakery from my home, and buying in bulk saves me a ton of money, but man, it’s a workout.
First off, I cleared out a large space in my pantry. This bag was massive, and I needed room to maneuver. I grabbed my trusty step stool, a couple of large, airtight containers, and some smaller containers for everyday use. My goal was to transfer this mountain of flour into more manageable portions.

- Heaving this bag was no joke. I definitely skipped arm day at the gym.
- With a grunt and a groan, I managed to get it onto the counter.
- Next, I carefully slit open the top of the bag, trying not to create a flour explosion.
Using a large scoop, I started transferring the flour into the airtight containers. It was a slow process, and honestly, pretty messy. Flour dust was everywhere! I made a mental note to wear an apron next time. And maybe a mask. I filled up the big containers, sealed them tight, and labeled them clearly with the date. These went back into the pantry, ready for when I need to refill my smaller containers.
Then, I filled up a couple of smaller containers that I keep on my kitchen counter. These are the ones I use for my daily baking. It’s so much easier to scoop out what I need from these rather than wrestling with the giant bag every time.
Finally, I cleaned up the mess. Like I said, flour was everywhere. I wiped down the counters, swept the floor, and even had to dust off the top of the fridge. It was a bit of a production, but now I’m all set for months of baking! Plus, I saved a bunch of cash by buying in bulk, which is always a win in my book. It was tough work, but I felt like a total champ afterward. Next time though, I might just call a friend to come help. Or invest in a smaller scoop. Or both.
