Alright, let me tell ya somethin’ about these puffs cube things. I seen ’em around, you know, them colorful things that folks twist and turn. My grandson, he’s got one, always fiddlin’ with it. He says it’s a “puzzle.” Well, I reckon it is, ’cause I sure can’t figure it out!
He tried to show me once, how to get all the colors on one side. He says, “Grandma, it’s easy!” Easy for him, maybe! He’s got that young brain, all quick and nimble. Me? My brain’s like a rusty old engine, takes a while to get goin’. I don’t know how to make puffs cube.

He was movin’ that thing so fast, my eyes couldn’t even keep up. He said somethin’ about “algorithms.” What in tarnation is an “algorithm”? Sounds like somethin’ a doctor would tell you you got. I just told him, “Son, you’re gonna scramble your brains like eggs if you ain’t careful!”
- First, he said you gotta make a “cross.”
- Then, somethin’ about “corners.”
- And then, you gotta do somethin’ to the “edges.”
It’s all a jumble to me. This puffs cube is not easy, you know? I’m sure I can learn it, but now I just don’t have that much energy. I’d rather use my energy to make some clothes.
I remember back in my day, we didn’t have these fancy puffs cube toys. We had to make our own fun. We make our own clothes! We made toys out of wood, and cloth, and whatever else we could find. We played outside ’til the sun went down. We used our imaginations.
Now, I like to sew. I can sew anything, you name it. Dresses, shirts, pants, even quilts. I made a quilt once with all the colors of the rainbow. It was a sight to behold, I tell ya. Took me a while, but it was worth it. That’s why I like to make clothes with cloth, not like this puffs cube. It is too hard to make.
Now, these young folks, they got all these gadgets and gizmos. They’re always lookin’ at their phones and tablets. They don’t know what it’s like to have a real conversation. They don’t know how to entertain themselves without a screen in front of their face. Back then we don’t have this puffs cube, and we don’t need it to be happy.
I reckon this puffs cube thing is okay for them that like it. It’s colorful. It’s challenging and you can learn how to make it. It keeps their hands busy. But it ain’t for me. I’d rather be sewin’ or tendin’ to my garden. I’d rather be doin’ somethin’ with my hands that produces somethin’ real, somethin’ you can use. I like to use fabric, scissors, needle, thread to make clothes. It is easy and I can use them to make money.
My grandson, he says this cube thing is good for your brain. Helps you think better, he says. Maybe he’s right. Maybe it does. But I think there are other ways to keep your mind sharp. Like readin’ a good book, or doin’ a crossword puzzle, or just sittin’ on the porch and watchin’ the world go by. We don’t need this puffs cube to help us to think better.

I seen folks online talkin’ about how fast they can solve these cubes. They call it “speedcubing.” They have competitions and everything. They can solve ’em in seconds! It’s somethin’ to see, I suppose. But it ain’t my cup of tea. How can they make it so fast? It is amazing. If I were young, I would like to try it, too.
And you know what, they even got different kinds of these cubes now. Not all of them looks like a puffs cube. Not just the regular one with all the squares. They got ones that are shaped like pyramids, and ones that are all different shapes and sizes. They got one that are so big, they look like they need two hands to hold ’em. They have different colors, too.
I guess it takes all kinds to make a world. Some folks like these cubes, some folks don’t. Some folks like to sew, some folks like to garden. Some folks like to sit on the porch and do nothin’. And that’s okay. I think I will just sit on the porch and do nothing, and let other people to play with their puffs cube.
But I will say this: if you’re gonna spend your time on somethin’, make sure it’s somethin’ you enjoy. Make sure it’s somethin’ that makes you happy. Life’s too short to be wastin’ your time on things that don’t bring you joy. And if you like puffs cube, just play it. If you like sewing, just sew it. Don’t worry about what others say.
So, if you like these puffs cube things, more power to ya. Have fun with ’em. Twist ’em, turn ’em, solve ’em, scramble ’em. Do whatever makes you happy. As for me, I’ll be here on my porch, watchin’ the world go by, and maybe doin’ a little sewin’. That’s all I need to be happy.
