How to Make Easy Egg Tartar? Simple Steps for a Tasty Dip.

Okay, so I decided to try making some egg tartar today. Saw a picture somewhere, looked decent, thought, why not? Can’t be that hard, right? Just eggs and some mayo stuff.

Getting Started

First thing, gotta boil the eggs. Grabbed a few from the fridge. Always a bit of a gamble, these eggs. Sometimes they peel easy, sometimes it’s a nightmare, bits of shell sticking everywhere. Threw them in a pot with water. Set the timer. Waiting for water to boil is seriously boring. Stared out the window for a bit.

While the eggs were doing their thing, I figured I’d get the other bits ready. Needed mayo, obviously. Found the jar, nearly empty. Typical. Had to scrape the insides to get enough out. Note to self: buy more mayo. Then, needed some pickles. Got the jar, fished a few out. Chopping these things is fiddly. Little bits fly everywhere. Kitchen counter’s already getting messy. Found an onion too, a small one. Chopping onions… well, you know. Tears. Every single time. Why does it have to be like this? Just trying to make some simple food here.

The Messy Part

Timer went off. Eggs done. Drained the hot water, ran cold water over them. Let them sit for a bit. Then the peeling started. And yeah, just my luck, these were the annoying kind. Shells came off in tiny, stubborn pieces. Took way longer than it should have. My fingers were getting sore. Seriously considered just mashing them shell and all. Okay, not really, but I was getting grumpy.

Finally got them peeled. Chopped them up. More mess. Egg bits sticking to the knife, the cutting board, my hands. Combined everything in a bowl:

  • The chopped eggs (finally)
  • That scraped-out mayo
  • The fiddly chopped pickles
  • The tear-inducing onion bits
  • Added a pinch of salt, some pepper. Maybe a tiny bit of mustard I found lurking at the back of the fridge.

Gave it all a good stir. Looked… well, it looked like egg tartar. Lumpy, creamy, yellowish-white stuff. Honestly, after all the chopping and peeling and near-empty jars, I wasn’t even sure I wanted it anymore. The kitchen looked like a small bomb had gone off in it.

The Result?

So, yeah. Made the egg tartar. Tasted it. It was… alright. Tasted like, you know, egg tartar. Was it worth the mess and the slightly annoying process? Maybe. Probably just gonna buy it next time. Easier. Less cleanup for sure. But hey, I did it. Another kitchen adventure logged. Now I gotta clean this mess up. Ugh.
