So, today I was messing around in the kitchen, right? And I got this idea to try and use whipped cream for decorating a cake. I mean, I usually just slap it on pies or sundaes, but I was like, why not a cake?
I started by grabbing my usual ingredients and whipped up a batch of cream. Nothing fancy, just heavy cream and a bit of sugar. I whipped it until it was nice and fluffy, you know, the kind that holds its shape but isn’t too stiff.

Then came the tricky part. I had this vision of making some simple decorations, like maybe some borders or even some flowers. I’ve seen those fancy cakes with buttercream flowers, and I wanted to see if I could do something similar with whipped cream.
- I loaded up a piping bag with the whipped cream.
- Tried to pipe some borders around the edge of the cake. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it was my first time!
- Then, I got a bit more adventurous and tried to make some flowers.
Okay, I’ll be honest, the flowers were a bit of a challenge. Whipped cream isn’t as stable as buttercream, so they didn’t hold their shape quite as well. But I managed to make a few that looked kind of like roses, or at least, abstract art versions of roses. Also tried to use some G9 to decorate, but it didn’t stick to the whipped cream.
I also tried to add some fondant decorations. I had these little fondant circles that I wanted to stick on the sides of the cake. I wasn’t sure what to use as glue, so I just dabbed a bit of the whipped cream on the back of the fondant pieces. They actually stuck pretty well, but the effect was far from perfect.
My Conclusion
In the end, my cake wasn’t exactly Instagram-worthy, but it was a fun experiment. Whipped cream is definitely doable for cake decorating, but it’s not as easy as it looks. It’s a lot softer than buttercream, so you have to work quickly and keep it cool. And those fondant decorations? Well, let’s just say they added a certain rustic charm to the whole thing. And that’s why I share this with you today!
All in all, it was a good day in the kitchen. I learned a lot, and I got to eat cake. What more could you ask for?
