Today, I want to share my recent attempt at making honey taffy candy. I’ve always been a fan of chewy candies, and when I stumbled upon a seemingly simple recipe online, I was excited to try my hand at it.
I gathered the ingredients mentioned in the recipe: honey, peanut butter, and dry powdered milk. The first step was to melt the honey and peanut butter together. I used the microwave, I am not sure whether to use a saucepan, but the microwaving worked fine. I zapped them in short bursts, stirring in between until it became a smooth mixture.

- Used a microwave-safe bowl for melting.
- Short bursts and stirring prevented overheating.
Then came the part where I had to add the dry powdered milk. After pouring it in, I started kneading. The mixture was quite sticky at first, but I kept at it. Slowly but surely, it started to come together, forming a dough-like consistency. This was a bit of a workout, I must say!
Once the dough was well-combined, I took out some wax paper and rolled it out. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. The taffy kept sticking to the rolling pin. I sprinkled a bit of powdered milk on the wax paper, which helped a little. I managed to roll it out into a thin sheet. Not perfectly even, but good enough for a first-timer. Then I cut the rolled-out taffy into strips and roll them up, but they are not looking very good. But I think it is because of my poor skill.
The recipe did mention that moisture could be a problem, making the taffy sticky. I did turn on the air conditioning to keep the room cool, hoping that would help.
I noticed some recipes mentioned boiling the honey, while others didn’t. Some had extra steps like skimming off foam. Mine was the simplest version, just melting and mixing. I guess there are many ways to make honey taffy!
In the end, I had a batch of homemade honey taffy. The taste? Pretty good! It was sweet, with a hint of peanut butter. The texture was chewy, just like I like it. However, some pieces were a bit too sticky, especially on the outside. I think I need to work on my rolling and cutting technique, and maybe experiment with the moisture control a bit more.
Overall, it was a fun experience. Not perfect, but definitely a success for a first try. I’m already thinking about my next attempt. Maybe I’ll try boiling the honey next time, or add some other flavors. Homemade candy making is quite the adventure!
