Halloween Cookie Cutters: Get Creative in the Kitchen
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Hey everyone, it’s that time of year again! Halloween is coming up, and you know what that means – it’s time to get crafty in the kitchen. This year, I decided to make some Halloween-themed cookies, and I wanted to share my little adventure with you all.

So, the first thing I did was to get my hands on some Halloween cookie cutters. I found this set online, 24 pieces, all different shapes like pumpkins, ghosts, skulls, and bats. They’re made of stainless steel, which is great because I can use them again and again. They are not easy to get rusty. Some are big, some are small, perfect for what I had in mind. When I was a kid, my mother would also let me participate in the cookie-making process during Halloween. I would pick out the shapes I like, and those were really good memories. Now I get to do this for my own kids, too.

Halloween Cookie Cutters: Get Creative in the Kitchen

Once I had the cutters, I whipped up a batch of cookie dough. Nothing fancy, just your basic sugar cookie recipe. After chilling the dough, because that’s what the recipe told me to do, I rolled it out and started cutting out the shapes. Here’s a little tip I learned from somewhere: dip the cutters in powdered sugar before each cut. It really helps to prevent the dough from sticking, and it’s way better than using flour. Trust me on this one, I tested it before, and the cookie came out tasting better with powdered sugar.

The baking part was pretty straightforward. I just followed the recipe’s instructions and popped them in the oven. While they were baking, I thought about all the other stuff I could use these cutters for. I mean, why limit ourselves to just cookies, right? I’m thinking tortillas, sliced bread, maybe even some fruits like apples or watermelon. Oh, and cheese! Halloween-shaped cheese slices? Yes, please! You see, I don’t want to just throw away those leftover scraps after cutting out the shapes. I got creative and used them in other dishes. For example, I added some fruit scraps to my morning yogurt, and I used some bread scraps to make a small bread pudding. It’s all about making the most of what you have, right?

Here are a few things I tried with the cookie cutters:

  • Tortillas: I made some spooky-shaped quesadillas for lunch. The kids loved them!
  • Sliced Bread: Sandwiches have never been this fun. I used different shapes to make mini sandwiches for an afternoon snack.
  • Fruits: I cut out shapes from apples, pears, and even watermelon. They made a great addition to my fruit platter.
  • Cheese: As I mentioned earlier, Halloween-shaped cheese slices are a hit in my house.

In the end, the cookies turned out great, and everyone loved them. But for me, it was more than just baking cookies. It was about getting creative, trying new things, and most importantly, having fun in the kitchen. So if you’re looking for a fun activity this Halloween, I highly recommend getting some cookie cutters and seeing where your imagination takes you. You might be surprised at what you can create!
