Today, I want to talk about my experience with SAF Gold instant yeast. I’ve been baking for a while now, and I’m always looking for ways to improve my bread. So, when I heard about this special yeast, I got to give it a shot.
First off, I got my hands on a packet of SAF Gold. I read the instructions, and it said this stuff is great for sweet doughs, the kind with a lot of sugar in them. I usually bake regular loaves, but I thought, “Why not try something new?”

Getting Started
- I decided to make some sweet rolls, something I don’t usually do. I gathered all my ingredients: flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and of course, the SAF Gold yeast.
- The cool thing about this yeast is that you don’t need to dissolve it in water first. You just mix it directly with the dry ingredients. That saved me a few minutes, which is always nice.
Mixing and Kneading
- I followed my recipe and mixed everything together. I noticed that the dough seemed a bit different, maybe a little softer. I kneaded it for about 10 minutes until it was smooth and elastic.
First Rise
- This is where I started to see a difference. The dough rose pretty quickly. Normally, I’d let it sit for an hour or so, but with the SAF Gold, it was ready in about 45 minutes. That was a pleasant surprise.
Shaping and Second Rise
- I shaped the dough into rolls and placed them on a baking sheet.
- Then came the second rise. Again, it went faster than usual. In about 30 minutes, the rolls had doubled in size. I was starting to get excited about how these would turn out.
Baking
- I preheated my oven and popped the rolls in. The smell that filled my kitchen was amazing, maybe a bit richer than what I’m used to.
- They baked for about 20 minutes, and when I took them out, they looked perfect – golden brown and fluffy.
The Taste Test
- I let the rolls cool for a bit, though it was hard to wait. Then I tried one, and wow, they were good! They were soft, fluffy, and had a really nice flavor. The SAF Gold yeast definitely made a difference.
Final Thoughts
Using SAF Gold instant yeast was a great experience. It made the whole process a bit faster, and the results were fantastic. I’m definitely going to use it again, especially for sweet doughs. I might even try it in my regular bread recipes just to see what happens. If you like baking, I’d say give it a try. You might be surprised at how much of a difference it makes!
