Okay, so I’ve been seeing these gorgeous fall-colored desserts all over my feed, and I just had to try making some myself. I decided to go with “fall food coloring” as my theme because, let’s be real, it’s all about the colors!
First, I gathered my supplies. I already had some basic food coloring gels, but I wanted to get a few more autumnal shades. I picked up some orange, a deep red, and a kind of rusty brown color. I also grabbed some white frosting (because that’s my blank canvas, you know?), some sprinkles (because, sprinkles!), and a few boxes of those plain sugar cookies from the store. Don’t judge, I’m all about easy!

Experiment Time!
- I divided the frosting into four little bowls. One stayed white, and the others I planned to color.
- For the first bowl, I went with just the orange gel. I added a few drops and stirred it up. It came out a pretty bright orange, perfect for pumpkins.
- Next, I tried to make a deeper red. I mixed the red gel with a tiny bit of the brown. It ended up looking like a nice, rich cranberry color.
- The rusty brown was the trickiest. I used mostly brown, but added a touch of orange and a teeny bit of red. It took some tweaking, but I finally got a color I liked – kind of like fallen leaves.
Once the frosting was all colored, I got to decorating! I spread the frosting onto the cookies and added some sprinkles for extra flair. Some cookies I did with just one color, and others I tried to swirl the colors together for a marbled effect. They weren’t perfect, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
The cookies turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself. They definitely look like fall, and they taste even better. Plus, it was a super easy and fun project to do on a lazy afternoon. 10/10, would recommend!
