Egg Beater Drill: Best Deals and Prices Online

Alright, let’s talk about this egg beater drill thing. You know, that thingamajig you use to make holes? Not the one for eggs, mind you, though I reckon they look kinda similar. Always confused me a bit at first, haha.

Now, I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I’ve seen my fair share of these drills. My old man used one all the time, back when we didn’t have all this fancy electric stuff. He called it a hand drill, but I guess some folks call it an egg beater drill ’cause it looks like, well, an egg beater! Makes sense, I guess.

These drills, they ain’t complicated. You just crank the handle, and it turns this pointy bit at the bottom, makin’ a hole. It’s slow, yeah, but it gets the job done. And you don’t need no electricity, which is mighty handy when the power goes out, which happened a lot back in the day. Heck, we didn’t even *have* electricity for a long time, so this here drill was all we had.

  • Types of Egg Beater Drills: Now, there’s different kinds, I hear. Some are old-timey, made of metal, real heavy-duty. Others are newer, maybe with some plastic. Some have different handles, some have different gears. But they all do the same thing: make holes. I’ve seen some tiny ones, like for little jobs, and some big ol’ ones that could probably bore through a whole tree trunk, if you were strong enough!
  • Where to Find Them: You can still find these drills, believe it or not. Flea markets, antique stores, sometimes even at those big box stores. Or you can get ‘em online, on that “e-bay” thing my grandson talks about. He says you can find just about anything there. Though I don’t trust buyin’ somethin’ I can’t hold in my hand first, you know? Gotta feel the weight of it, see if it’s sturdy.
  • How to Use Them: Using ‘em is easy enough. You just put the pointy end where you want the hole, and start crankin’. Gotta hold it steady, though, or you’ll end up with a crooked hole, and nobody wants that. And you gotta push a little, not too hard, but just enough to keep the bit diggin’. It’s a feelin’ thing, you get used to it. Like kneadin’ dough, you know? You just know how much pressure to use.

My old man, he could use that drill like nobody’s business. He’d build all sorts of things, shelves, birdhouses, even a whole darn chicken coop once, all with that hand drill. He said it took longer, sure, but it was more satisfying. Said you felt more connected to the work, you know? I didn’t get it then, but I think I do now.

Comparing Egg Beater Drills to Electric Drills: Nowadays, everyone uses them electric drills. They’re faster, sure, and easier on the arms. But they ain’t the same. They don’t feel the same. They don’t have the same… soul, I guess you could say. An electric drill just screams and makes a hole, fast and loud. But with a hand drill, you’re *part* of makin’ that hole. You feel the wood resistin’, then givin’ way. It’s a whole different experience.

And let me tell you, those electric drills, they break down. Need new batteries, or they get all tangled up in cords. But a good ol’ egg beater drill? That thing’ll last you a lifetime if you take care of it. Just a little oil now and then, keep it clean, and it’ll keep on drillin’ holes till the cows come home.

I saw my grandson try to use my old man’s drill once. He couldn’t get the hang of it. Said it was too slow, too much work. He’s used to things bein’ fast and easy, I guess. But I told him, sometimes the slow way is the best way. Sometimes you gotta take your time, put in a little effort, to really appreciate somethin’.

So, if you’re lookin’ for a drill that’ll last, a drill that’ll connect you to the work, a drill that ain’t gonna quit on you when the power goes out, then maybe you should try an egg beater drill. They ain’t fancy, they ain’t fast, but they get the job done. And there’s somethin’ to be said for that, ain’t there?

Restoring Old Egg Beater Drills: Oh and you can fix ‘em up too, if they get rusty. Just gotta clean ‘em up, oil ‘em good, maybe sharpen the bit. My old man, he was always tinkerin’ with his tools, keepin’ ’em in good shape. Said a good tool is like a good friend, you gotta take care of it. And he was right, as always.

So there you have it, my two cents on egg beater drills. They ain’t for everyone, I know. But for those who appreciate the simple things, the old ways, they’re a treasure.
