Okay, so, I saw these super cute edible butterflies online that people were using to decorate cakes, and I thought, “I gotta try that!” I’m no professional baker, but I do love getting crafty in the kitchen, and these seemed like a fun project.
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some supplies. Luckily, everything was easy enough to find online. I ordered a pack of these pre-made edible butterflies – they came in all sorts of colors and sizes. They’re made of some kind of wafer paper, which I guess is safe to eat. I also picked up some white chocolate wafers, because, according to the internet, you can melt them and use them to stick the butterflies on. And no project is complete without sprinkles, right? So I got a big jar of those too.

Once I had all my stuff, I started by melting the chocolate. I just followed the instructions on the package – super simple. You just pop them in the microwave for a bit, and boom, melted chocolate. Then came the slightly trickier part. I had to carefully attach the butterflies to these little wooden skewers using a tiny bit of the melted chocolate. I used a piping tool for cake decorating, and made the butterflies look like they were flying. It was a little messy, but hey, that’s half the fun, right?
-
Step 1: Melt the white chocolate wafers according to package directions.
-
Step 2: Use a little melted chocolate to stick the butterflies onto wooden skewers.
-
Step 3: Before the chocolate hardens, add some sprinkles to the butterflies’ bodies for extra sparkle.
-
Step 4: Let the chocolate cool completely so the butterflies stay put.
While I waited for the chocolate to cool and harden, I baked a simple vanilla cake. I used a box mix, nothing fancy. I’m all about making things easy on myself! Once the cake was baked and cooled, I frosted it with some store-bought frosting. Again, no shame in taking shortcuts!
Finally, the moment of truth! I carefully stuck the butterfly skewers into the cake, arranging them so it looked like a little butterfly garden. It turned out so much better than I expected! The edible butterflies really made the cake look special, and it was actually pretty easy to do. It’s definitely something I’ll try again, maybe with different colors and shapes next time. This was a blast, and the cake was a hit with my family. They couldn’t believe I made the butterflies myself!

A Piece of Cake!
If you’re looking for a fun and easy way to jazz up a cake, I highly recommend giving these edible butterflies a try. They’re a simple way to add a touch of whimsy to any dessert. Just remember to get some extra wafer butterfly, because I found out that it is very fragile.
