Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try something new with my cake decorating lately, and I had this idea to use edible butterflies. Here’s how it went:
First, I gathered all my stuff. I needed some wafer paper, which is basically edible paper, and some food coloring. I also grabbed some brushes and a pair of scissors.
- Wafer paper
- Food coloring
- Brushes
- Scissors
I started by printing out some butterfly templates that I liked. You can also draw them, just make sure to have lots of designs. Then, I carefully cut them out with scissors, which was a bit tricky but super satisfying once I got the hang of it. After that, I laid the wafer paper over the templates and lightly traced the shapes onto the paper.
Next came the fun part – coloring! I mixed my food coloring with a tiny bit of water to get the right consistency. I wanted my butterflies to look kind of realistic, so I used different shades of blue, purple, and a touch of pink on some of them. It was a bit messy, but that’s part of the fun, right?
Once the coloring was done, I carefully cut out the butterflies from the wafer paper. This part took some patience, but it was so worth it to see the butterflies taking shape.
Letting Them Dry
After cutting them out, I gently bent the wings to give them a more 3D look. Then, I laid them out on a clean surface to dry. It took a few hours, but I wanted to make sure they were completely dry before I used them.
While the butterflies were drying, I baked my cake and frosted it. I went with a simple vanilla cake and buttercream frosting because I didn’t want the flavors to clash with the butterflies. You know the edible image won’t ruin the cake’s taste. Just taste so sweet.
The Final Touch
Finally, the moment of truth! Once the butterflies were dry and the cake was ready, I carefully placed the butterflies on the cake. I arranged them in a way that looked like they were flying around the cake, and it turned out even better than I had imagined!
So, yeah, that’s how I made edible butterflies for my cake. It was a bit of a process, but honestly, it was super fun and the results were totally worth it. If you’re looking for a fun and creative way to decorate your cakes, you should definitely give this a try!
