Alright, so you know I’m all about DIY stuff, right? Well, recently I decided to try making edible body butter. Yeah, you heard that right – edible! Don’t get any crazy ideas though, it’s more for fun and a little skin treat.
First things first, I hit up the grocery store. I needed to grab some key ingredients. I was aiming for a simple recipe, so I picked up some:

- Coconut oil – gotta have that base, it’s super moisturizing.
- Shea butter – because who doesn’t love shea butter? Makes everything feel so smooth.
- Cocoa butter – for that chocolatey smell and extra skin-loving goodness.
- Honey – for a touch of sweetness and because it’s supposed to be good for your skin too.
- Vanilla extract – just a dash for that extra yummy scent.
Got all my stuff, and now the fun begins! I started by measuring out my ingredients. I went with roughly:
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup shea butter
- 1/4 cup cocoa butter
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Don’t be too strict on the measurements, it’s all about experimenting. I tossed the coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter into a double boiler. If you don’t have one, just use a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water – works like a charm! I let everything melt slowly, stirring occasionally until it was all liquid-y and smooth.
Once melted, I took it off the heat and let it cool for a bit. You don’t want to add the honey and vanilla when it’s scorching hot, or you might mess with their properties. After a few minutes of cooling, I stirred in the honey and vanilla extract. Gave it a good mix until everything was combined.
Next up was the waiting game. I poured the mixture into a clean glass jar and popped it into the fridge. This is where the magic happens. You need to let it solidify but not get too hard. I checked it every 30 minutes or so. I wanted it to be firm enough to whip.
After about an hour and a half, it was perfect! I took it out of the fridge and grabbed my hand mixer. I whipped it for a good 5-7 minutes until it turned into this light, fluffy, cloud-like concoction. Seriously, it looked like whipped cream!
And that was it! I transferred the edible body butter into a cute little jar. Gave it a try on my skin and it felt amazing – super moisturizing and smelled heavenly. Now, about the “edible” part… I took a tiny taste. It was okay! Definitely tasted like coconut oil and a hint of honey and vanilla. Honestly, I wouldn’t eat a whole spoonful, but it’s kinda fun knowing you could if you wanted to.
Important note: This stuff melts pretty easily, so keep it in a cool place. And always do a patch test on your skin before slathering it all over. You never know if you might have a sensitivity to something.

Overall, it was a fun little DIY project. I’d totally make it again! Maybe next time I’ll try adding some different essential oils for a different scent.
