I got this idea to make some cookies the other day. I haven’t baked in a while, so I went to get my stuff together. Turns out, my old flour sifter was all rusty and gross. I threw that thing away and decided to get a new one. I wanted something that would last and I figured, why not look for one made in the USA? It might cost a bit more, but I think it’s worth it for something good.
I hopped online and started looking around. It felt like there were a million different flour sifters out there! Some were tiny, just for dusting powdered sugar on stuff. Others were huge, like for people who bake a ton. I just needed a regular-sized one. Around 3 cups I thought. Then I started thinking about the kind that has a crank handle on the side, or the kind that you squeeze. I thought to myself that the squeeze type might be a pain. I mean, holding it with one hand, squeezing it over and over, sounds like it’d get tiring.

So, I focused on the crank-style ones. I read a bunch of reviews, looked at a ton of pictures. Then I found one called the Norpro 3-Cup Stainless Steel Rotary Hand Crank Flour Sifter. It’s got that classic look, like a tin can with a handle, but it’s made of shiny stainless steel. And it’s got a two-wire agitator inside. What is that you may ask? Well, that’s the thing that helps break up the clumps of flour. Plus, it’s made in the USA! Then I saw another one, Bellemain Stainless Steel 3-Cup Flour Sifter, which looks good as well, but I didn’t get a lot of info about where it was made.
I went with the Norpro. I had to get it shipped, but it arrived pretty quickly. I was pretty excited to try it out. I got my ingredients together, grabbed the sifter, and got to work.
Here’s how it went:
- I measured out my flour and put it in the sifter. I noticed that it is made of durable stainless steel with a fine mesh screen, so that’s a good sign.
- I started turning the crank. It was pretty easy, and the flour started coming out all nice and fluffy.
- I sifted all the flour I needed, and I didn’t have any problems. No clumps, no mess. I was impressed!
After I finished baking, I washed the sifter. It was easy to clean, just rinsed it out and let it dry. I’m really happy with this new sifter. I think it’s going to last me a long time. Plus, I feel good about supporting a company that makes its stuff in the USA. If you’re looking for a new flour sifter, I definitely recommend checking out the Norpro. It’s a good one!
