Decorative Tools: Which Ones Do You Really Need?

Okay, so you wanna fix up your place, make it look nice and pretty, huh? Well, you gonna need some tools, that’s for sure. Don’t go thinkin’ you can do it with just your bare hands, unless you wanna end up with a mess. I’m gonna tell ya what you need, the real down-to-earth stuff, none of that fancy talk.

First off, you gotta have somethin’ to slap that paint on the walls, right? We call ’em paintbrushes. Get a few different sizes, big ones for the big spots, little ones for the corners and tricky bits. And don’t go buyin’ those cheap ones, they shed bristles like a dog in the summer. Get some good ones, they’ll last ya longer. And rollers, them big fluffy things, they’re good for the big walls, make it go faster. You’ll also need a tray to put the paint. Make sure it’s not too heavy when it’s full of paint, or you’ll be struggling.

Then there’s the tape. You know, that sticky stuff? You gotta tape off the edges, so you don’t get paint all over the place. Unless you like paint on your windows and trim, then go ahead, be my guest. But trust me, taping is easier than scrubbin’ paint later. Get the blue kind, it’s better than that cheap paper stuff.

Oh, and don’t forget about scrapers. You know, those flat metal things? They’re real handy for gettin’ rid of old paint or wallpaper. Sometimes that old stuff is stuck on there good, and you gotta put some muscle into it. But be careful, don’t go gougin’ the wall. You want it smooth, not all bumpy and messed up.

Now, let’s talk about measuring stuff. You gotta know how big things are, right? So get yourself a tape measure. Don’t get one of those flimsy ones, get a good sturdy one. And a level, that’s important too. You don’t want your pictures hangin’ all crooked, do ya? Nobody wants to see that. It’s embarrassing!

And if you’re gonna be puttin’ up shelves or somethin’, you gonna need a hammer and some nails, or maybe a drill and some screws. I ain’t gonna tell you which one is better, it depends on what you’re doin’. But if you’re gonna use a drill, be careful. Those things can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doin’. Start with a small hole first, then make it bigger if you need to.

  • Safety first, I always say. Get yourself some gloves, so you don’t get paint all over your hands. And safety glasses, you don’t wanna get nothin’ in your eyes. And a mask, if you’re workin’ with smelly stuff. Better safe than sorry, that’s what my old man always said.
  • If you are doing big renovations, maybe you’ll need a saw. But saws are tricky, you gotta be real careful with those. If you don’t know what you’re doin’, you could cut your finger off. And nobody wants that. And don’t forget the sandpaper. You’ll need it to smooth things out before you paint or stain.
  • If you’re really fancy, you might get one of them 3D printers. My grandson has one, makes all sorts of little knick-knacks with it. But those things are expensive, and I don’t know nothin’ about ’em. He says they use somethin’ called filament, but that’s all Greek to me. They cost a lot though, from 300 to 500 dollars! That’s too much money if you ask me. He told me some can be up to 20,000 dollars, can you believe that?

So there ya have it, a bunch of tools you might need. Don’t go thinkin’ you need all of ’em at once, just get what you need for the job you’re doin’. And don’t be afraid to ask for help, if you don’t know what you’re doin’. Better to ask than to mess somethin’ up. And remember, take your time, don’t rush it. Decoratin’ ain’t a race, it’s about makin’ your place look nice and feel like home.

And one last thing: clean up after yourself! Nobody wants to live in a mess. Wash your brushes, put your tools away, and throw out the trash. It’s just common sense, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t do it. Don’t be one of those people, okay? Keep your place tidy. It helps keep your mind tidy too.

Now get to work and make that place shine! You got this!
