So, I got this idea the other weekend. Felt like doing something cozy, you know? Winter’s still hanging around. And I was thinking about simple stuff, good stuff. Bread and honey just popped into my head. Then I thought, beer goes well with pretty much everything, right? So, why not a bread and honey beer menu? Just a little thing, maybe for when friends drop by, or even just for myself.
Figuring Out the Beers
First step was figuring out what beers actually make sense. Honey beer seemed obvious. Got to have that in there. I looked around, thought about what I like.

- Needed a lighter one, maybe a honey blonde ale or a wheat beer with a touch of honey. Something easy to start with.
- Then maybe something a bit darker? Like a brown ale or even a bock. Those sometimes have those nice, malty, almost bready flavors anyway, and a bit of honey sweetness could work.
- I also thought, maybe something totally different? Like a crisp pilsner to cut through the sweetness. A bit of contrast.
Didn’t want to make it too complicated. Just a few good choices. I ended up picking three main types: a honey wheat, a classic bock, and for contrast, I grabbed a simple pale ale I had on hand. Not exactly a pilsner, but crisp enough.
Getting the Bread and Honey Ready
This part was easier. Just needed good bread. I didn’t bake it myself this time, just picked up a nice crusty sourdough loaf from the local bakery. Sliced it thick. For the honey, I had a couple of jars already. One was a standard clover honey, the other was this darker buckwheat honey I got from a farmer’s market. Gave folks a choice, you know?
Putting the Menu Together
I didn’t go fancy. Just grabbed some brown cardstock I had lying around. Wrote it out by hand. Kept it super simple:
Bread & Honey Beer Flights
Served with fresh sourdough & choice of honey.
- Sunshine Honey Wheat: Light, hint of sweetness, goes great with clover honey.
- Old Bridge Bock: Darker, malty, try this with the buckwheat honey.
- Simple Pale Ale: Crisp hop bite, cleans things up.
I listed the beers, added a tiny description like you see above. Nothing fancy, just enough to give an idea. Made a few copies of this handwritten menu.
How It Went
Had a couple of friends over Saturday. Pulled out the bread, the honey, poured some small tasters of the beers. It was really nice, actually. Super simple, low effort, but felt kinda special. Everyone liked just sitting around, tearing off bits of bread, trying the different honeys with the different beers. The bock with the buckwheat honey was a big hit. The pale ale was good too, just to reset things between tastes. It wasn’t some grand event, just a simple, good time. Proved you don’t need much to make things feel a bit different and enjoyable.

Definitely doing that again. Easy and tasty.
