Commercial Flour Sifter: Which Type Is Best for Your Bakery?

Okay, let’s talk about my little adventure with flour sifters. You know, those things you use in the kitchen to make your flour all nice and fluffy? Well, I’ve been baking a lot lately, and I realized I needed a good sifter, especially if I wanted to up my baking game. So, I decided to get myself one. Not just any sifter, mind you, a proper commercial one, the kind you see in real bakeries.

I did some digging, you know, checking out what’s out there. I found a couple of brands that people seemed to like. There was this Cook N Home one, an 8-cup stainless steel model. Sounded pretty solid and it had a crank, which I thought was neat. Then there was this OXO Good Grips sifter. It looked simpler, and you just had to shake it. It had a comfy handle, which was a plus.

I also stumbled upon this Norpro sifter, a 3-cup one. It came with measurements on it, which I thought would be super handy. And there was another brand, Prepworks by Progressive, that caught my eye. They always have some cool kitchen gadgets.

But then I thought, why not just use a regular wire strainer? I mean, I’ve used those before, and they seemed to work fine. Plus, those fancy sifters with cranks and all seemed like a pain to clean, especially if you’re using stuff like cocoa powder.

After going back and forth, I ended up choosing a simple, fine-mesh strainer by YLYL, just like I should have done in the first place. This one is made of stainless steel, and it’s got this super fine mesh that’s perfect for sifting flour. And let me tell you, it’s a game changer!

Here’s how I use my sifter

  • First, I grab my big mixing bowl and set the strainer on top.
  • Then, I scoop the flour into the strainer, not too much, just enough to fill it about halfway.
  • Next, I gently tap the side of the strainer or give it a little shake. This makes the flour fall through the mesh and into the bowl, leaving behind any lumps or bits you don’t want in your batter.
  • I keep doing this until I’ve sifted all the flour I need.
  • Once I’m done, I just rinse the strainer under the tap, give it a quick wipe, and it’s good as new. No fuss, no mess!

Using this sifter has made a noticeable difference in my baking. My cakes are fluffier, my pastries are lighter, and everything just seems to come out better. I’m really glad I got it. It’s like, why didn’t I do this sooner? It’s one of those things that you don’t think you need until you actually use it, and then you’re like, “Wow, this is awesome!”

So, if you’re into baking and you’re still on the fence about getting a sifter, take it from me, just get a simple fine-mesh strainer. It’s affordable, easy to use, and it’ll make your baked goods so much better. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
