Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Baking Illustrated: The Only Picture Guide Youll Ever Need!

Okay, so I’ve always wanted to make those perfect, chewy chocolate chip cookies. You know, the kind you see in the bakery display that make your mouth water? Well, I finally decided to give it a shot. I found this recipe online, and it looked pretty straightforward, so I thought, “Why not?”

First things first, I gathered all the ingredients. Flour, sugar, butter, eggs, the usual suspects. And of course, a big bag of chocolate chips. I made sure I had everything laid out on the counter before I started. This is key, people. You don’t want to be running around looking for baking soda when your butter and sugar are already creamed together.

I started by creaming together the softened butter and both the granulated and brown sugars. I used my trusty stand mixer, but you could totally do this by hand if you’re feeling strong. You want to mix it until it’s all light and fluffy, like a sweet, sugary cloud.

Mixing the wet ingredients

  • Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, I whisked together the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, and salt. Then, I gradually added the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. You don’t want to overmix here, or your cookies will be tough. No good!

Now for the best part: the chocolate chips! I poured in a generous amount, because let’s be real, there’s no such thing as too many chocolate chips. I folded them in gently until they were evenly distributed throughout the dough.

I lined my baking sheets with parchment paper and scooped out rounded tablespoons of dough onto the sheets, leaving some space between each one. They need room to spread out and get all crispy around the edges.

Then, into the preheated oven they went! I baked them for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges were golden brown and the centers were still a little soft. You don’t want to overbake them, unless you like crunchy cookies. Which, hey, no judgment here.

I let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This is the hardest part, waiting for them to cool down enough to eat!

Finally, the moment of truth. I took a bite, and oh my goodness. They were perfect! Chewy, gooey, with just the right amount of chocolate in every bite. I was so proud of myself! I might even start my own bakery now, who knows? Or maybe I’ll just keep making these cookies for myself. Yeah, that sounds more likely.
