Right, so I wanted to do some baking this weekend, planned out a couple of cakes actually. First thing I did was check my pantry supplies.
Looked for the baking powder. Found the tin, but yeah, totally empty. Not even a dusting left. Knew I’d have to grab some.

My Trip to the Store
Decided to just head out to my local grocery store down the street. Nothing fancy, just the usual place I go. Got in the car, quick drive over.
Once I was inside, I made a beeline for the baking aisle. It’s usually tucked away between the spices and the sugar. Found it pretty quick.
Checking Out the Options
So there they were, all the baking powders lined up. I saw a few different ones:
- The store’s own brand – usually my go-to.
- Some of the more famous brands you always see.
- Different sizes too – small tins, bigger plastic tubs.
Naturally, I started looking at the price tags on the shelf right below them. You gotta compare, right?
The Actual Prices I Saw
It wasn’t too crazy expensive, thankfully. Here’s roughly what I remember seeing:
- Store Brand: The small tin was maybe around one fifty, something like $1.50. The larger tub was closer to three bucks, maybe $3.00 or $3.20.
- Name Brands: These were a bit more. The small tin was probably just over $2.00. The bigger ones pushed towards $4.00, maybe even a bit more depending on the brand.
What I Ended Up Doing
I stood there for a second, thinking. I do bake fairly often, especially when I get the urge. The small tin never seems to last that long.
So, I just grabbed the larger tub of the store brand. It seemed like the best value for the amount you get, and honestly, I don’t notice a huge difference in my baking. It works just fine.

Tossed it in my shopping cart with the other stuff I needed, paid at the checkout, and headed home. So yeah, that’s the scoop on baking powder prices from my little trip today. Got what I needed without breaking the bank.
