Okay, so I got this wild idea to make a bunny cake, right? And not just any bunny cake, but one of those 3D ones where the bunny’s kinda sitting up, you know? I saw this bunny cake mold online, and I just had to try it. I’m no pro baker, but I figured, how hard could it be?
First off, I ordered the mold. It was a two-piece thing, one for the front of the bunny and one for the back. While I waited for that, I started gathering all my other stuff. I grabbed a box of cake mix – yeah, yeah, I know, from scratch is better, but I was going for easy here – plus the eggs, oil, and water it called for. I also picked up some frosting, food coloring, and a bunch of sprinkles, because, well, sprinkles make everything better.

The mold finally arrived, and it was go-time. I greased up both halves real good, because the last thing I wanted was a bunny stuck in the mold. Then, I mixed up the cake batter. It was pretty straightforward, just dump everything in a bowl and mix it up till it’s smooth. I poured the batter into the mold, filling up the back part first, then carefully placed the front part on top. It was a bit wobbly, but I managed to get it into the oven without any major disasters.
I set the timer for like 30 minutes, but kept a close eye on it. You never know with these things. While it was baking, I started playing around with the frosting. I wanted a light pink bunny, so I mixed in a few drops of red food coloring into the white frosting. I also got a little carried away and made some blue and green frosting, just for fun.
When the timer went off, I pulled out the mold and let it cool for a bit. This was the moment of truth. I carefully removed the top half of the mold, and… it was a bunny! A little lopsided, maybe, but definitely a bunny. I let it cool completely before I even thought about frosting it. We would not want melted frosting at this stage.
Frosting time! I slapped on that pink frosting all over the bunny. It was messy, but kinda fun. Then came the details. I used a toothpick to make some little eyes and a nose with the blue and green frosting. And, of course, I dumped a whole bunch of sprinkles on the ears and tail. We wanted a colorful little guy after all.
The Result
- Shape: It actually looked like a bunny! A little wonky, but hey, it was my first try.
- Taste: Cake mix, so, you know, it was good.
- Decoration: The frosting was a bit of a mess, but the sprinkles helped. A lot.
All in all, it was a fun little project. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a good way to spend an afternoon, and the cake was pretty tasty. Plus, who doesn’t love a bunny cake covered in sprinkles? It might have taken a bit longer than anticipated, but it was well worth the time we spent getting our hands dirty.
