Best Sugar Cookies with Sanding Sugar: Tips and Tricks
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alright, let’s talk about them sugar cookies with sanding sugar, you know, the sparkly ones. I ain’t no fancy baker, mind you, but I know a thing or two ‘bout makin’ tasty treats. My grandma, she taught me, and her ma taught her, so it’s in the blood, I reckon.

First off, you gotta get your stuff together. Flour, sugar, butter – the usual suspects. Now, some folks get all highfalutin’ with their flours, but all-purpose works just fine for me. And butter? Don’t skimp on the good stuff. That cheap margarine ain’t gonna cut it, no sirree. You want that real creamy flavor, you gotta pay the price, that’s what I always say.

Best Sugar Cookies with Sanding Sugar: Tips and Tricks

Now, this here “sanding” thing, it ain’t nothin’ complicated. It just means you mix the dry stuff with the butter until it looks like sand. Yep, just like that sand down by the creek. You rub it between your fingers, and it feels all crumbly, that’s how you know it’s right. Some folks, they put in some rice flour or cornstarch to make it extra sandy, but I don’t bother with all that fuss. Just flour, sugar, and butter, that’s all you need, believe you me.

  • Flour – Don’t go crazy with the fancy kind, just regular all-purpose is fine.
  • Sugar – Gotta have the sweet stuff, and we’ll use some extra for the sanding later.
  • Butter – Real butter, the good kind, none of that fake stuff.
  • Eggs – To bind it all together, you know.
  • Vanilla – Just a splash, for that little somethin’ somethin’.

Once you got your sandy mix, you throw in some eggs and a splash of vanilla. Mix it all up good, but don’t overdo it. You want it just combined, not tough like an old boot. Then you gotta roll it out. Now, some folks like to chill the dough, but I ain’t got time for that. I just roll it out right away. If it sticks, you just sprinkle a little more flour on it, no big deal.

Then comes the fun part, cuttin’ out the cookies. You can use whatever shapes you want. Stars, hearts, little men – it don’t matter. Just make sure you got enough, ‘cause folks gonna be wantin’ more than one, that’s for sure. After they are all cut out, it is time for the sanding sugar. That’s that big, sparkly sugar. Not the regular kind, the big crystals. You sprinkle it on top before you bake ‘em. It makes ‘em all pretty and sparkly, like little jewels. Kids love it, and grown-ups too, if they’re bein’ honest.

Bakin’ ‘em is easy. Just put ‘em on a cookie sheet and stick ‘em in the oven. You gotta watch ‘em close, though, ‘cause they can burn real quick. You want ‘em just golden brown around the edges, that’s when they’re done. Take ‘em out and let ‘em cool on a wire rack. If you don’t have a wire rack, just put ‘em on a plate, it’ll be alright. They might stick a little, but who cares? They’ll still taste good.

And that’s all there is to it. Sugar cookies with sanding sugar, simple as that. They ain’t fancy, but they’re good. They’re the kind of cookies that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, like a hug from your grandma. And ain’t that what a good cookie is all about?

So, go on, give it a try. You don’t need no fancy equipment or special skills. Just some good ingredients and a little bit of love. And remember, there ain’t just one right way to do it. If you mess up, who cares? Just try again. That’s how you learn, that’s how life is too. You just keep on tryin’ till you get it right.

And one more thing, don’t be scared to get your hands dirty. That’s the best part of bakin’, gettin’ all messy and floury. It reminds you of bein’ a kid again, and there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. So, go ahead, make some cookies. And don’t forget the sanding sugar. It makes all the difference, believe you me.
