Best Giant Sugar Cookie Recipe Ever: Simple and Delicious
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alright, listen up, y’all! I’m gonna tell ya how to make a giant sugar cookie, the kind that makes your grandkids’ eyes pop right outta their heads. This ain’t no fancy-schmancy recipe from some cookbook. This is just good ol’ fashioned bakin’, the way my mama taught me, and her mama before her.

First thing’s first, you gotta get your stuff together. You need flour, sugar – the white kind, mind you, not that brown stuff – some butter, eggs, a little bit of that bakin’ powder stuff, and a pinch of salt. Oh, and some vanilla, if you’re feelin’ fancy. Don’t go skimpin’ on the butter, get the real stuff, it makes a world of difference, ya hear?

Now, I ain’t got no fancy measurements, I just eyeball it. But for you young’uns, I’ll try to explain it so you don’t mess it up. Let’s say… three cups of flour. Yeah, that sounds about right. Dump that in a big ol’ bowl. The biggest one you got. Then, you’re gonna need about a cup and a half of sugar. Maybe a little more if you like it sweet, a little less if you don’t. It’s up to you, just don’t come cryin’ to me if it ain’t sweet enough.

Next up, the butter. You need it soft, so leave it out on the counter for a bit. Or, if you’re in a hurry like I always am, you can microwave it for a few seconds. Just don’t melt it all the way, or your cookie will be flat as a pancake. We want a nice, thick cookie, somethin’ you can really sink your teeth into. Let’s say… one cup of butter, that oughta do it. Throw that butter in the bowl with the flour and sugar.

  • Flour – about 3 cups
  • Sugar – about 1 and 1/2 cups
  • Butter – about 1 cup (softened)

Now, crack in two eggs. Just two, don’t get greedy. And then a teaspoon of that bakin’ powder and a pinch of salt. The salt, that’s important, it makes the sweetness pop, ya know? And if you’re usin’ vanilla, pour in a little splash. Don’t measure it, just a good glug. Like you’re pourin’ medicine for a cough.

Then, you gotta mix it all up. I use my hands, but you can use a mixer if you’re fancy. Just mix it until it all comes together, until it forms a big ball of dough. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour. If it’s too dry, add a little bit of milk, just a tiny splash. You gotta feel it, ya know? Bakin’ ain’t just about followin’ directions, it’s about feelin’ the dough, knowin’ what it needs.

Once you got your dough all mixed up, you gotta roll it out. Now, this is for a GIANT cookie, so you need a big ol’ space. I just use my kitchen table, I clean it real good first, of course. Flour the table a little bit so the dough don’t stick. Then, roll that dough out, not too thin, not too thick. Maybe about half an inch thick? Yeah, that sounds about right.

Now, here’s the tricky part. You gotta get that giant cookie onto a bakin’ sheet. And I ain’t talkin’ about no little cookie sheet, I’m talkin’ about the biggest one you got. You might even have to use two! If you’re careful, you can fold the dough in half, then in half again, and then unfold it onto the bakin’ sheet. Or you can just cut it into pieces and arrange them on the bakin’ sheet. Doesn’t have to be perfect. We ain’t makin’ art here, we’re makin’ a cookie!

Once you got your cookie on the bakin’ sheet, you can decorate it if you want. I just sprinkle some sugar on top, but you can use sprinkles, or frosting, or whatever you like. Kids love them colorful sprinkles, makes it all festive, ya know? Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, that’s what, one hundred seventy-five-ish for you youngsters that use them newfangled Celsius numbers. Then, stick that cookie in the oven for about… oh, I don’t know, maybe 20 minutes? Maybe longer? You just gotta keep an eye on it. When the edges are golden brown and the middle is still a little soft, it’s done.

Take it out of the oven and let it cool for a bit before you cut into it. And then, enjoy! This giant sugar cookie is perfect for sharing with family and friends, or just for eatin’ all by yourself. It’s so big, you might even have leftovers! But trust me, it won’t last long. Because we are workin’ with simple ingredients, not complicated stuff, that everyone has in their pantry. This cookie brings people together like nothin’ else. Now go on, get bakin’!
