Okay, so I’ve always had a sweet tooth, and one of my all-time favorites has gotta be egg tarts. I mean, who can resist that flaky crust and creamy, custard-like filling? I’ve tried them all over, from fancy bakeries to those little hole-in-the-wall shops. And let me tell you, I’ve had some amazing ones and some…not-so-amazing ones.
So the other day, I got this crazy idea: Why not try making them myself? I’ve baked a few things before, like cookies and cakes, but never anything quite like this. Still, I was determined to give it a shot. I looked up a bunch of recipes online and finally settled on one that seemed simple enough. Even I could do it!

First, I gathered all the ingredients: flour, butter, sugar, eggs, milk, the usual suspects. Then I got to work on the crust. I mixed the flour and butter, cut it with a knife, and I added some water until it formed a dough. It was a bit messy, but I think I did okay. I wrapped it in plastic wrap and stuck it in the fridge to chill.
Next up, the filling. I whisked together the eggs, sugar, and milk, and I added a little vanilla extract for extra flavor. It smelled so good already! I poured the mixture into a saucepan and cooked it over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickened up a bit. It looked like the real egg tart filling you know?
Now, back to the crust. I took it out of the fridge and rolled it out on a floured surface. I used a round cutter to cut out circles of dough, and I carefully pressed them into a muffin tin. Then I poured the filling into each crust, making sure not to overfill them. I felt like a real baker. I couldn’t wait to see how these babies would turn out.
Finally, I popped the muffin tin into the oven and baked them for about 20 minutes. The whole kitchen started to smell amazing. Like, seriously, my mouth was watering. When the timer went off, I took them out and let them cool for a bit.
They looked pretty good, if I do say so myself! They weren’t perfect, but hey, it was my first time. The crust was nice and flaky, and the filling was creamy and sweet. I took a bite, and oh boy, it was delicious! I think, in the end, all my hard work really paid off. They tasted just like the ones I get at my favorite bakery, maybe even better. I was so proud of myself!
All in all, I did it! This experience really made me believe in myself. I felt so satisfied. I shared them with my family, and they all loved them too. They even asked me to make more! I definitely learned that it’s quite an interesting experience to make egg tarts yourself. It’s also good to share your creations with other people. I think I’m going to try making them again soon, maybe with different flavors. Who knows, maybe I’ll even open my own egg tart shop someday. Haha, just kidding…unless?
- Egg tart number one, you have to try it!
- And, number two, that one’s the Portuguese-style one, so good!
So, yeah, that’s my egg tart adventure. It was fun, it was messy, and it was totally worth it. If you’re thinking about trying to make egg tarts yourself, I say go for it! You might surprise yourself.

Enjoy it and have fun in the kitchen!
