Okay, so I really wanted to make some bread, but I realized I was all out of vegetable oil. I was a little bummed at first, but then I thought, “Hey, there’s gotta be a way to make this work!” And guess what? There totally is!
So, the first thing I did was look up some recipes online. I found that a lot of them say you can totally skip the kneading part, which is awesome because, let’s be real, kneading can be a bit of a pain. Anyway, these no-knead recipes are super simple and perfect for someone like me who’s not exactly a pro baker.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “But you need an oven to bake bread, right?” Well, usually, yes. But I started thinking back to those old pioneer days and how people used to live off the grid. They didn’t have fancy ovens, so how did they bake bread?
It turns out there are ways to bake bread without an oven. I came across this method used on sailboats, which is pretty cool. But I also knew I needed something like baking powder, baking soda, or some eggs to make it work. I went ahead and used some eggs I had on hand.
Here’s what I did:
- Gathered all my ingredients. I made sure I had my flour, water, a bit of salt, and a couple of those eggs.
- Mixed everything together in a big bowl. I didn’t bother with kneading; I just stirred it all up until it was well combined.
- Greased up a pot. Since I wasn’t using an oven, I decided to try baking it on the stovetop. I used a heavy pot with a lid, and I made sure to grease it up real good so the bread wouldn’t stick.
- Poured the dough into the pot, put the lid on, and let it cook on low heat for a while. I kept an eye on it to make sure it didn’t burn.
And you know what? It actually worked! I ended up with a pretty decent loaf of bread, and it didn’t even need any vegetable oil. It was a bit dense, but hey, it was still bread, and it tasted pretty good, especially with a bit of butter. So, if you’re ever in a pinch and want to make bread without vegetable oil or even an oven, don’t worry, it’s totally doable! Just get a little creative, and you might surprise yourself with what you can come up with.
