Okay, so I saw these “Ava’s Grilled Flatbread Crisps” at the store the other day and thought, “Hey, I can probably make those!” I’m all about trying to recreate store-bought stuff at home. It’s usually cheaper, and you know exactly what’s going into it. Plus, it’s fun!
First, I gathered my ingredients. I already had most of the basics:

- Flour (just regular all-purpose)
- Water
- Salt
- Olive oil
I figured I’d need some herbs too, to get that flavor. I grabbed some:
- Rosemary (dried, because that’s what I had)
- Garlic powder (because everything’s better with garlic)
Mixing it Up
I dumped about 2 cups of flour into a big bowl, added a pinch of salt, and sprinkled in the rosemary and garlic powder. I’m not big on measuring, so I just eyeballed it. Then, I drizzled in some olive oil – maybe a couple of tablespoons? – and started adding water, a little at a time.
I mixed it all with my hands until it formed a dough. It was a little sticky at first, but I kept kneading it on a floured counter until it became smooth and elastic. This took a while, maybe 10 minutes? My arms got a good workout!
Grilling Time
I don’t have an outdoor grill, so I used my cast iron skillet. I heated it up over medium-high heat. While that was heating, I divided the dough into smaller pieces and rolled them out super thin. Like, really, really thin. I wanted them to be crispy, after all.
I laid the flatbreads onto the hot skillet, one at a time. No oil in the pan – I wanted that dry, grilled effect. They started to bubble up almost immediately. I flipped them after a minute or two, when they had some nice brown spots. The other side cooked even faster.
The Result?
They were pretty good! Crispy, a little charred, and definitely had that herby flavor. Were they exactly like Ava’s? Maybe not. But they were tasty, and I made them myself! Next time, I might try adding some different herbs, maybe some thyme or oregano. Or even a little Parmesan cheese!

All and all I’d say a win and will make them again!
