Alright, so I picked up this essential everyday 5 lb all-purpose flour the other day. You know how it is, you run out, you grab what’s there. Needed something for just, well, everyday stuff.
First thing I did, I think it was Saturday morning, decided to whip up some pancakes. Nothing complicated. Just scooped out the flour, mixed it with the usual suspects – eggs, milk, a bit of sugar. Felt pretty normal mixing it, you know? Like regular flour. No big clumps or anything weird. Poured it onto the griddle.

They cooked up just fine. Looked like pancakes, tasted like pancakes. Maybe not the fluffiest I’ve ever made, but decent enough. They held the syrup okay, which is the main thing, right?
Later on, maybe Monday or Tuesday, I needed to make a roux for a sauce. Just butter and this flour in the pan. It browned up okay, mixed smooth. Thickened the sauce like it was supposed to. No complaints there, it did its job without any fuss.
Tried it for a few other things too
- Needed a bit for dusting the counter when I was rolling out some dough for pizza. Worked fine for that, kept things from sticking.
- Used it in a simple cookie recipe. Just basic chocolate chip. The dough seemed maybe a little… average? But the cookies baked up alright. They weren’t bad.
- Coated some chicken pieces before frying. Gave a decent enough crust.
Look, it’s exactly what it says on the tin, or bag, in this case. It’s all-purpose flour for everyday use. It’s not gonna win any awards, probably. It doesn’t feel like super high-quality, fancy stuff. But for just having flour in the cupboard to make pancakes, thicken a stew, bake some basic cookies? Yeah, it works. It gets the job done. It’s reliable enough for the price point, and that’s really all I was looking for when I bought it. Pretty straightforward stuff.
