Okay, so the other day I got my hands on some turkey cookie cutters. Thanksgiving is creeping up, you know, and I thought, why not try making some themed cookies? Seemed like a fun little project.
Getting Started
First things first, I had to actually make some cookie dough. Didn’t do anything fancy. Just dug out my go-to sugar cookie recipe. You know the one – butter, sugar, eggs, flour, the usual suspects.

- Creamed the butter and sugar.
- Beat in the eggs and a bit of vanilla.
- Slowly mixed in the flour mixture.
The dough came together pretty well. Wrapped it up and stuck it in the fridge for a bit, supposed to make it easier to handle. Always feels like the longest wait, doesn’t it?
The Cutting Part
Alright, dough chilled, time for the main event. I floured up my counter like crazy because I hate sticky dough. Rolled it out, maybe a bit unevenly, if I’m being honest. Then I grabbed those turkey cutters.
I had a couple of different sizes. Started pressing them into the dough. The shapes came out alright! The metal cutter worked clean enough. Getting them onto the baking sheet without stretching the little turkey legs or necks was the tricky bit. Needed the spatula for sure. Made quite a few, filling up two baking sheets.
Baking and Decorating
Into the oven they went. Just baked them until the edges started looking a little golden. The whole kitchen smelled amazing, which is always the best part of baking, right?
Let them cool down completely on a wire rack. Then came the decorating. Mixed up some simple icing – powdered sugar, bit of milk, bit of vanilla. I tried to get creative, give them some feather details with different colored icing – some orange, brown, yellow. Honestly, my decorating skills aren’t exactly professional level. Some looked more like blobs than turkeys, but hey, it’s the effort that counts!
Final Thoughts
So yeah, that was my adventure with the turkey cookie cutters. They worked as expected, cut out turkey shapes just fine. The cookies tasted good, even the blobby ones. It was a pretty relaxing way to spend an afternoon, getting a little festive. Definitely recommend giving it a go if you’ve got some turkey cutters lying around.
