Okay, so I’ve been on this mission to find the absolute best fruitcake in NYC. I know, I know, fruitcake gets a bad rap. But I’m telling you, a good one is amazing. So, I started this whole quest, and let me tell you, it was a journey.
The Great Fruitcake Hunt Begins
First, I hit up all the usual suspects. You know, the big-name bakeries. I figured they’d have something decent, right? I went to one place, I think they are very famous, and tried their version. It was…okay. Kind of dry, not a lot of flavor. Disappointing, to say the least.

Then I tried a couple of other well-known spots. One was super fancy, and the fruitcake looked gorgeous. But it tasted mostly of, like, candied orange peel. And it was expensive. Not worth it.
Digging Deeper
So, I realized I needed to go off the beaten path. I started asking around. I talked to some foodie friends, checked out some online forums, and basically became a fruitcake detective.
- I found this little Italian bakery downtown. Their fruitcake was totally different – way more moist, with tons of nuts and this amazing boozy flavor. Getting closer!
- Then I discovered a place in Brooklyn, a real hole-in-the-wall. They make their fruitcake with this dark, rich molasses. It was intense, in a good way. Really interesting.
- Someone told me about a bakery that only does, their fruitcake using an old family recipe.I am so exciting about it.
Getting Close the Finnal Step
I still need to check the bakery to try the old family recipe fruitcake.I will update very soon, fingers crossed.
