Get Sugar and Company Baking Recipes: Make Amazing Desserts at Home!

Okay, so I’ve been meaning to try out some recipes from “Sugar and Company” for ages. Their stuff always looks so good, you know? Finally got around to it this weekend, and let me tell you, it was a bit of an adventure!

First Attempt: The Chocolate Chip Cookies

I started with what I thought would be the easiest: their classic chocolate chip cookies. I mean, how can you mess up chocolate chip cookies, right? Famous last words.

I gathered all the ingredients – flour, sugar, butter, eggs, the usual suspects. I even splurged on some fancy chocolate chips, thinking that would make a difference. I followed the recipe pretty closely, I think. The dough seemed a bit… wetter than usual, but I figured it would be fine.

  • Creamed the butter and sugar until it was nice and fluffy.
  • Added the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  • Slowly incorporated the dry ingredients. It was a bit of a workout, honestly.
  • Folded in those fancy chocolate chips. They looked so promising!

I popped them in the oven, all excited, and… well, they spread out like crazy. Like, giant, flat, crispy pancakes instead of nice, thick cookies. I may or may not have slightly underbaked them, hoping they’d firm up. They didn’t. They were still tasty, though! Just… not quite what I was going for.

Second Attempt: The Lemon Bars

Feeling a little defeated, but not giving up, I moved on to the lemon bars. These seemed a bit more forgiving. Plus, I love anything lemon.

The crust was super easy. Just pressed some shortbread-ish dough into a pan. No problem there. The filling was where things got interesting.

  • Whisked together eggs, sugar, lemon juice, and zest. It smelled amazing!
  • Poured the mixture over the crust. So far, so good.
  • Baked it until it was just set. This part made me nervous, but I think I nailed it.

And guess what? They turned out pretty great! A little gooey in the middle, but in a good way. Tangy, sweet, and definitely a win after the cookie fiasco. I dusted them with powdered sugar, and they looked almost professional!

The Verdict?

So, my “Sugar and Company” baking adventure was a mixed bag. The cookies were a bit of a disaster, but the lemon bars were a success! I think I need to work on my cookie technique. Maybe I’ll try a different recipe next time, or maybe I’ll just stick to lemon bars. They were really good.
