Homemade Biscuits Easy Recipe (No Baking Powder Required)

Okay, here’s my blog post about making biscuits without baking powder:

So, I was craving biscuits the other day, you know, the fluffy, buttery kind. But then I realized I was out of baking powder! Disaster, right? Nope! Turns out, you can totally make biscuits without it. I did some digging and experimented a bit, and guess what? It worked! Here’s how I did it:

My No-Baking-Powder Biscuit Adventure

First, I grabbed my trusty all-purpose flour. No need for anything fancy here. I measured out about two cups. Then, I added a teaspoon of salt – gotta have that flavor balance. For a little sweetness, I threw in a tablespoon of sugar. You can skip this if you want strictly savory biscuits, but I like a hint of sweet.

Next, the fat! This is crucial for that flaky texture. I used cold butter – about half a cup, which is one stick. The key is to keep it cold, so it doesn’t melt into the flour too much. I cut the butter into small pieces and then used my fingers (you could use a pastry cutter, but who needs extra dishes?) to work it into the flour mixture. It should look like coarse crumbs when you’re done.

Now for the liquid. I used buttermilk because I love the tangy flavor it adds. Regular milk works too, though! I poured in about 3/4 of a cup, slowly, while stirring the mixture with a fork. Don’t overmix it! You just want the dough to come together. It’ll be a little shaggy, and that’s okay.

I lightly floured my countertop and turned the dough out onto it. Then, I gently patted it down to about an inch thick. No need for a rolling pin – we’re keeping it rustic! I used a round cookie cutter (a glass works fine too) to cut out the biscuits.

I placed the biscuits on a baking sheet – I like to line mine with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Then, into a preheated oven at 450°F (232°C) they went. I baked them for about 12-15 minutes, until they were golden brown and gorgeous.

The Result is pretty good!

And that’s it! Warm, fluffy biscuits, even without baking powder. They were a little denser than traditional biscuits, but still delicious. I slathered them with butter and jam, and they were gone in minutes. Seriously, give it a try! It’s easier than you think.
