Okay, so I wanted to make a cake, but not just any cake, a perfectly square one. I’d seen those fancy cakes on Instagram and thought, “I can do that!” So, I went on a mission to find a square cake mold.
First, I checked my local grocery store. Nothing. Just the usual round pans and some sad-looking loaf pans. No square ones in sight.

Next, I hit up a bigger store, the kind with a whole aisle dedicated to baking. I spent a good 20 minutes rummaging through shelves, pushing aside bundt pans and muffin tins. Still no luck. I even asked a store employee, who just gave me a blank stare and pointed me back to the round pans. Gee, thanks.
The Search Continues
Feeling a bit defeated, I decided to try online. I mean, you can find anything online, right? I spent what felt like hours browsing, comparing sizes, materials, and prices.
- Some were too small.
- Some were too big.
- Some were made of that flimsy metal that warps in the oven.
I even consider one of that “adjustable” cake molds but have bad experince with it, it’s a big NO for me.
Finally, I found it! A sturdy-looking, 8×8 inch square cake mold. I checked reviews, all good. Woo-hoo! I added to my cart and placed order immediately.
A few days later, the mold arrived. I was so excited! I washed it, dried it, and got ready to bake. I used my go-to chocolate cake recipe, poured the batter into the greased and floured mold, and popped it in the oven.
The waiting was the hardest part. I kept peeking through the oven door, watching the cake rise. Finally, the timer went off. I pulled out the cake, and it was…perfectly square! A beautiful, golden-brown, square cake.
I let it cool, frosted it, and decorated it with some sprinkles. It looked (and tasted) amazing! All that searching for the perfect square cake mold was totally worth it.
