Okay, so I was making these cookies the other day, right? And the recipe, it called for baking powder. Now, I’m usually pretty good at following recipes, but for some reason, my brain decided to take a detour.
The Experiment Begins
I grabbed the baking powder, no problem. But then, I don’t know why, I had this sudden urge to taste it. Just a tiny bit, on the tip of my finger. I figured, “Hey, it’s going in the cookies anyway, what’s the harm?”

Well, let me tell you, the harm was a very unpleasant surprise. It was salty! Not just a little bit, but like, noticeably salty. And kind of bitter, too. Definitely not something you’d want to eat on its own.
My Reaction
My face probably did some weird contortions. I rinsed my mouth out, like, five times. I even Googled “baking powder salty” just to make sure I wasn’t going crazy. Turns out, it’s totally normal. Baking powder has sodium bicarbonate in it, which, you know, is salty.
Lesson Learned
So, yeah, I learned my lesson. Don’t go around tasting random baking ingredients. Even though it went into the cookies and they turned out fine (thank goodness!), eating baking powder straight up is not a good time.
- Don’t taste random ingredients.
- Baking powder is salty.
- Always trust the recipe…and your taste buds (after the fact).
Seriously, just stick to the recipe, folks. Baking powder is meant to be mixed with other stuff, not enjoyed as a solo snack. You’ve been warned!
