Okay, so today I decided to mess around with farina in the kitchen. I’ve heard of people making desserts with it, and I was like, “Farina? Really? Isn’t that just for breakfast?” But hey, I’m always up for trying new things, so I did a little digging and found some interesting recipes.
Getting Started
First things first, I had to get my hands on some farina. I already had some in my pantry, the kind you usually use for hot cereal. It’s basically just coarsely ground wheat, nothing fancy.

The Experiment Begins
I found a couple of recipes online, one for a farina pudding and another for a farina cake. Sounded simple enough, so I jumped right in.
- Farina Pudding: This was super easy. I basically just cooked the farina with milk, sugar, and a bit of vanilla extract. It thickened up pretty quickly, and I poured it into some ramekins to cool.
- Farina Cake: This one was a little more involved. It had the usual cake ingredients like flour, sugar, eggs, and butter, but it also used farina. I mixed everything together, poured it into a cake pan, and popped it in the oven.
The Tasting
Okay, so the moment of truth. How did they taste?
The farina pudding was surprisingly good! It was creamy, a little sweet, and had a nice, subtle flavor. I sprinkled some cinnamon on top, and it was perfect. My kid actually loved it, so that’s a win!
The farina cake, It had a slightly denser texture than a regular cake, but it was still moist and tasty. The farina added a bit of a nutty flavor, which I liked. I think next time I’ll add some fruit or maybe some chocolate chips to make it even better.
My Thoughts
Overall, I was pretty impressed with how these farina desserts turned out. It’s definitely a versatile ingredient, and it’s a cheap one, too. I wouldn’t say these are the best desserts I have ever eaten, but for a quick and easy treat, they are pretty neat!
I’m definitely going to keep experimenting with farina. Maybe I’ll try some savory dishes next time! I have seen some recipes with cheese and herbs, might be good. If you’ve got any cool farina recipes, let me know – I’m always looking for new ideas!
