Okay, so I’ve been trying to be super careful about gluten lately, and it’s honestly a bigger headache than I thought. Everything seems to have hidden gluten! The other day, I was making a salad dressing and thought, “Wait a minute, is lemon juice gluten-free?” I mean, it should be, right? It’s just… juice from a lemon.
But you know how it is, you gotta double-check EVERYTHING. So, I grabbed a few different lemons from my fridge, some were fresh and some were bottled ones.

Getting Started with Testing
- First thing I did was examine Fresh lemons. Looked at the peel, smelled them, you know, the usual stuff. There is Nothing to suggest gluten, naturally.
- Then, I Squeezed the fresh lemons into a clean glass. I made sure the knife and cutting board were washed thoroughly beforehand, just in case.
- For the bottled stuff, I Checked the labels REALLY carefully. I looked for any “may contain” warnings or mentions of shared facilities with wheat products.
I felt a little silly, to be honest, standing there scrutinizing lemon juice. But better safe than sorry, I guess.
The Results
The fresh lemon juice was obviously fine. No problems there,it is just fruit, pure and simple. Most of the bottled lemon juices were also labeled gluten-free, which was a relief. There was one generic brand that didn’t have any gluten information at all, so I just decided to skip that one. Not worth the risk.
So, my conclusion? Yeah, lemon juice is gluten-free in its natural form,I think it is very safe. With bottled stuff, just be a smart shopper and read those labels. If it’s clearly marked, you’re probably good to go. If in doubt, leave it out! It’s a simple rule I always keep in my mind.
I finished making my salad dressing, feeling pretty confident that I hadn’t accidentally glutened myself. Success!
