Okay, so I’ve been on this baking kick lately, and I needed some baking powder. I usually just grab whatever’s cheapest, but I was at Trader Joe’s, and I saw theirs. I figured, “Why not?” I mean, it’s Trader Joe’s. Everything else I get there is pretty good.
So, I picked up a can of the Trader Joe’s Baking Powder. It looked pretty standard, nothing fancy about the packaging. The real test, though, was going to be how it worked in my recipes.

My Baking Test
First up, I made a batch of my go-to chocolate chip cookies. I followed my usual recipe, just swapping in the Trader Joe’s baking powder for my usual brand. I mixed everything up, scooped the dough onto baking sheets, and popped them in the oven.
The cookies rose nicely, maybe even a little too nicely? They spread out a bit more than usual, so they were a little flatter, but they still looked pretty good. And the taste? They were delicious! No weird aftertaste or anything.
- Appearance: A little flatter than usual, but still golden brown.
- Texture: Nice and soft, with a good chew.
- Taste: Just like my regular cookies – yummy!
Next, I tried it out in a simple vanilla cake. I wanted to see how it would perform in something a little more delicate. Again, I just substituted the Trader Joe’s baking powder for the one I normally use.
The cake baked up beautifully! It was light and fluffy, with a nice, even crumb. I was really impressed. It rose perfectly, and it tasted great. No complaints at all.
Honestly, I’m pretty happy with the Trader Joe’s Baking Powder. It worked just as well, if not better, than my usual brand, and it’s probably a little cheaper, too. I’ll definitely keep using it in my baking!
