Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make my own wooden dough scraper for a while now. I saw a few online, but they were either too expensive or just not quite what I was looking for. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and, you know, just build one myself!
Getting Started
First things first, I needed some wood. I had some scrap pieces of hardwood lying around in my garage from a previous project. I think it was maple, but honestly, I’m not 100% sure. It was a good, solid piece though, and that’s what matters.

I drew a rough shape of the scraper I wanted onto the wood. Nothing fancy, just a basic rectangle with a slightly curved edge on one side. I wanted something simple and functional, you know?
Cutting and Shaping
Next up, I clamped the wood down to my workbench. Safety first, people! Then, I grabbed my trusty jigsaw and carefully started cutting along the lines I drew. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, that’s the beauty of handmade stuff, right? It’s got character!
Once I had the basic shape cut out, I used a rasp and some sandpaper to smooth out the edges and refine the curve. This part took a while, I’m not gonna lie. I went through a few different grits of sandpaper, starting with a coarser one to remove the rough bits and then finishing with a finer grit to make it all nice and smooth.
Finishing Touches
After all the sanding, I wiped the scraper down with a damp cloth to remove any dust. Then, I applied a few coats of food-safe mineral oil. I let each coat soak in for a bit before wiping off the excess. This helps protect the wood and keeps it from drying out. Plus, it gives it a nice, subtle sheen.
The Result!
And that’s it! My very own handmade wooden dough scraper. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I made it. It feels good in my hand, and it works great for scraping dough off my countertop and cutting board. I’m pretty proud of it, if I do say so myself.
I even tested this bad boy by making a few pizza, It worked great, better than my other store-bought plastic scraper!
