Okay, so I’ve been seeing these adorable Christmas cookies all over my feed, and I finally decided to give them a shot. The key? Good cookie cutters, obviously! So I’m gonna share my little journey of making these cookies, starting with finding the perfect cutters.
The Hunt for the Perfect Cutters
First things first, I needed those cutters. I hit up a few local stores, you know, the usual suspects like department stores and craft shops. It was a bit of a mixed bag. Some had really flimsy ones, and others were just… not cute. I wanted classic shapes, like a gingerbread man, a star, a Christmas tree, maybe a reindeer. Nothing too crazy.

Finally, I found a cute little kitchen * have all kinds of baking stuff. I picked up a set that had all the basics, and they felt pretty sturdy. They were metal, not plastic, which I prefer. Metal cutters just give you sharper, cleaner edges, you know?
Prepping the Dough
With my cutters acquired, I moved on to the dough. I used my grandma’s old sugar cookie recipe – it’s a classic for a reason! It’s super important to chill the dough, guys. Seriously, don’t skip this step. I popped mine in the fridge for about two hours. Chilling makes the dough way easier to handle and keeps the cookies from spreading too much in the oven.
Cutting and Baking Time!
Once the dough was nice and cold, I rolled it out on a lightly floured surface. Then came the fun part – using the cutters! I pressed them firmly into the dough, making sure to get close to the edges to minimize waste. It was actually pretty satisfying, seeing all those cute little shapes come to life.
I carefully transferred the cut-out cookies onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Into the oven they went! I baked them until the edges were just starting to turn golden brown. The smell wafting through the kitchen? Amazing. Pure Christmas vibes.
The Finished Product (and a Few Mishaps)
After they cooled, I decorated them with some simple royal icing. I’m no expert decorator, so I kept it pretty basic – outlines, some sprinkles, the works. A few of the cookies… well, let’s just say they didn’t make it to the final photo shoot. A reindeer lost an antler, a gingerbread man had a bit of a melty face. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right? Imperfectly perfect.
Overall, I’m super happy with how they turned * The most important is that, I had so much fun making these!
