Yesterday, I wanted to make a dessert for my kids after dinner, and I remembered I had a can of whipping cream in the fridge. I thought, “Why not make some whipped cream?” It seemed simple enough, right?
So, I grabbed the can of whipping cream from the fridge. First thing I did was give it a good shake. I wasn’t really sure if this step is necessary, but it can’t hurt, right? I shook it for about 10-15 seconds, just to mix things up inside.

Next, I removed the cap. The nozzle looked a bit tricky, but I figured it out quickly. Usually, these cans have a little tab you need to break off first. Mine was no different. After breaking the tab, I turned the can upside down. It’s essential to hold it straight down, or else you just get air.
I placed the nozzle over my bowl and pressed it gently. At first, nothing. Then, slowly, the whipped cream started to come out. It was a bit messy initially, kinda just splattering everywhere. I wasn’t expecting it to have so much force, and maybe i shaked it too hard? I quickly adjusted, holding the nozzle closer to the bowl and pressing more gently.
The cream started to form these nice, fluffy peaks. I kept going until I had a decent amount in the bowl. Honestly, it was kinda fun seeing it all come together. I can see myself doing this again with other desserts.
Tips for Next Time
- Chill the can: I think chilling the can in the fridge for longer might help the cream whip better. Maybe an hour or so before using it.
- Shake well: Shaking is probably a good idea, but not too vigorously. Just enough to mix the contents.
- Practice the nozzle: It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of the nozzle. Pressing gently and holding the can straight down seems to work best.
- Don’t over-whip: I didn’t have this problem, but I’ve read that over-whipping can make the cream kinda grainy. So, stop when you have those nice soft peaks.
In the end, the kids loved the whipped cream on their little bowls of strawberries. It was a quick and easy way to make a simple dessert a bit more special. I’ll definitely be using this method again. Maybe next time, I’ll try making some chocolate mousse or something fancy like that!
