Okay, so today I’m gonna show you how to make some mayonnaise rolls. Yeah, you heard that right – mayonnaise! It sounds weird, but trust me, it makes these rolls super soft and fluffy. And guess what? We’re just using regular all-purpose flour, nothing fancy.
First things first, I grabbed all my ingredients. You’ll need:

- Warm water (like, lukewarm, not hot)
- A packet of active dry yeast
- Some sugar
- A good amount of mayonnaise (the real stuff, not the light kind)
- Salt
- And of course, all-purpose flour
Let’s Get This Dough Rolling
I started by proofing the yeast. Basically, I just mixed the warm water, yeast, and a pinch of sugar in a bowl and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when it gets all bubbly and foamy.
While the yeast was doing its thing, I grabbed a bigger bowl and whisked together the mayonnaise, salt, and the rest of the sugar. Then, I poured in the yeast mixture and gave it a good stir.
Next, I gradually added the flour, about a cup at a time, mixing it in with a wooden spoon until it became too hard to stir. Then I dumped the whole mess onto a lightly floured surface and started kneading.
Now, I’m not gonna lie, kneading can be a bit of a workout. But you gotta keep at it for about 8-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. If it’s too sticky, just add a little more flour. But don’t worry about using your mixer. We’re doing this old-school.
Once the dough was ready, I shaped it into a ball and placed it in a greased bowl, turning it to coat. Then I covered the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it doubled in size.
After the dough had risen, I punched it down (satisfying, right?) and turned it out onto a lightly floured surface again. I divided the dough into 12 equal pieces and shaped each piece into a ball. These are gonna be our rolls!
Time to Bake
I placed the dough balls on a greased baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one. Then I covered them with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes or so.

While the rolls were rising, I preheated my oven to 375°F (190°C). Once they were nice and puffy, I popped them in the oven and baked them for about 15-20 minutes, or until they were golden brown.
And there you have it! Fresh, warm, mayonnaise rolls made with just all-purpose flour. They came out so soft and fluffy, and that little hint of tanginess from the mayo was just perfect. I slathered one with some butter while it was still warm, and oh boy, it was heavenly. Give it a try, you won’t regret it!
