Today I’m gonna tell you about how I messed around with some soda crackers – the “export” kind, you know? Those thin, crispy little squares that are kinda plain but still addictive. I had this big tin of Keebler’s Export Sodas, the 28oz one, just sitting in my pantry, calling my name.
So, first things first, I had to get these crackers out of the tin. It’s one of those old-school metal ones, like what your grandma used to keep her sewing stuff in. I popped the lid and bam! There they were, rows and rows of these pale, salty squares, all neatly stacked up. They smelled kinda like… well, crackers, but with a hint of something else. Maybe it’s that “export” magic, who knows?

I grabbed a handful and started munching. They’re super dry and crispy, just like I like ’em. And yeah, they’re a little salty, but not in an overpowering way. They got these little holes all over them, I guess that’s to let the steam out when they bake ’em or something. I’m not a baker, don’t quote me on that. They’re a little bit like saltines. Oh, I learned a little trivia. These saltines are also called saltina or soda crackers, and I think they are the same thing. And also, they are made with white flour, a leavening agent like baking soda or yeast, shortening, and coarse salt. Interesting, right?
Now, these crackers are pretty plain on their own, but that’s where the fun starts. I started experimenting. I slapped some cheese on one, some peanut butter on another, even dipped one in some leftover soup. They held up pretty well, didn’t get all soggy right away. I even tried crumbling them up and using them as a topping for my salad. It actually worked! Gave it a nice little crunch.
What I Did with Them:
- Cheese: Classic combo, can’t go wrong.
- Peanut Butter: Sweet and salty, a winning pair.
- Soup Dip: Adds a bit of flavor and makes the soup more filling.
- Salad Topping: Crunchy and adds a new texture dimension.
After a while, I realized I was basically just using these crackers as an excuse to eat all the other stuff in my fridge. But hey, that’s what they’re there for, right? They’re like the blank canvas of the snack world. These Export Sodas are definitely a solid choice. They’re nothing fancy, but they get the job done. Plus, that big tin lasts forever, so you always have a crunchy snack on hand. Just don’t blame me if you end up eating the whole thing in one sitting.
