Homemade Cranberry Dessert Sauce Recipe: Step by Step
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alright, let’s talk about makin’ that cranberry sauce, the kind you put on them desserts. I ain’t no fancy chef, mind you, just a regular person who likes good eatin’. And this here sauce, it’s good eatin’, I tell ya. Easy peasy too, even for someone like me who ain’t got all them fancy kitchen gadgets.

First off, you gotta get yourself some cranberries. Them little red berries, you know? Can’t make cranberry sauce without cranberries, that’s for sure. Now, some folks like to use the fresh ones, and that’s all well and good, but I say, the bagged ones work just fine. Less fuss, you know? Ain’t nobody got time for pickin’ through berries all day long.

Homemade Cranberry Dessert Sauce Recipe: Step by Step

Next thing you need is sugar. Yeah, sugar. Cranberries are kinda tart, so you gotta sweeten ’em up a bit. How much sugar? Well, that depends on how sweet you like it. I usually just pour some in, maybe a cup or so, sometimes a bit more. You can always add more later, but you can’t take it out, so start slow. That’s what I always say, start slow and go from there.

And then you need a little water. Just a splash, not too much. Maybe half a cup, maybe a little more. The water helps the cranberries cook down and turn into sauce. You don’t want it too watery, though, or it’ll be like soup, and nobody wants cranberry soup on their dessert, unless you are weird or somethin’. We’re makin’ sauce here, not soup. Gotta keep that in mind.

  • Cranberries (fresh or bagged, whatever you got)
  • Sugar (start with a cup, add more if you like)
  • Water (a splash, just enough to get things cookin’)

Now, how to make it? It’s so simple, you’ll laugh. First, you dump them cranberries in a pot. Any pot will do, long as it’s clean. Then you pour in the sugar and the water. See? Told ya it was easy. Now, stir it up a bit, just to get everything mixed together.

Then, you put that pot on the stove. Turn the heat up, medium-like, not too high, not too low. And you just let it cook. Keep an eye on it, though, you don’t want it to burn. Stir it every now and then, just to make sure nothin’s stickin’ to the bottom. It don’t take long, maybe ten or fifteen minutes. You’ll know it’s done when the cranberries start to burst, and it turns all saucy and thick.

That’s it! You made cranberry sauce. See? Told ya it was easy. Now, you can eat it warm, right out of the pot, if you’re impatient like me. Or you can let it cool down and put it in the fridge. It’ll thicken up even more when it’s cold. And let me tell ya, it’s mighty good on all sorts of desserts.

You can put it on ice cream, cake, pie, pudding, whatever you got. It adds a little somethin’ special, a little tartness and sweetness all at the same time. My grandkids, they love it. They eat it by the spoonful, straight from the jar. And you know what? I don’t blame ’em. It’s good stuff.

Now, some folks like to add fancy things to their cranberry sauce, like orange zest or cinnamon or ginger. But me? I like it plain and simple. Just cranberries, sugar, and water. That’s all you need. Don’t go messin’ with a good thing, I always say. But hey, if you wanna get fancy, go right ahead. It’s your sauce, you can do what you want with it.

Homemade Cranberry Dessert Sauce Recipe: Step by Step

And the best part? This here homemade cranberry sauce is way better than that canned stuff. You know, the stuff that comes in a can and looks like jelly? That stuff ain’t got no flavor. This homemade stuff, though, it’s got flavor in spades. It’s fresh and bright and tangy, everything that canned stuff ain’t. Once you try this homemade version, you’ll never go back to that can stuff again, I bet ya.

So there you have it, my easy peasy cranberry dessert sauce recipe. Go on and make some, you won’t be sorry. It ain’t hard, and it tastes so dang good. Your family will thank you, your belly will thank you, and you will thank me. So go on, get yourself some cranberries, sugar and water and go to it. Remember, start slow, keep an eye on it, and let them cranberries burst. That’s all there is to it.

Don’t be scared to experiment. Maybe you like it sweeter, add more sugar. Maybe you like it thinner, add more water. Maybe you like it with a little kick, throw in some spices. It’s all up to you. Just have fun with it, and enjoy the deliciousness that is homemade cranberry sauce. You can handle it and that’s all you need to know for my special cranberry sauce, the best darn cranberry sauce you ever tasted.
